I feel I made a big mistake updating to iOS 10. There are some cool features although ever since I have installed the update, nothing seems to work properly or smooth. Everything from everything taking that additional step to constant freezing on my iPhone 6.
Is there a way to reinstal the previous iOS version

iOS 10 should run great on the iPhone 6. While waiting for my 7 to come in. I updated my 6 and noticed that it was noticeably more responsive than with iOS9. Try rebooting the phone or erase all and restore again.

The OS is doing a lot in the background after the update. My iPad pro was very choppy and sluggish for a few hours after the update. Just give it time.

I sort of hate it too, and I would like to downgrade if possible. I don't like the new notifications, cause now I can't just answer messages by pulling down the notification. And I can't do tasks that I was able to do without force touch. I have force touch on my phone but I don't like using it, and I don't have force touch on my ipad.

It feels like a beta version and I would rather wait till they finish it.
How difficult is it to downgrade?

It depends upon your level of skill with the effort. The best way to go backwards is to start clean and rebuild everything. You will need to download the IPSW from Apple and use iTunes to perform a restore. You could try to restore some of your data and it might work but its a better bet to do a clean install.

I would wait it out a while and make do. You will eventually come back to 10 so might as well stay and hope it gets better. My kids complained at first too but now they are fine with the newness and the slowness has gone away.

Download iOS 9.3.5 and restore to iOS 9 then! (time is limited before apple stop signing 9.3.5)

Here is how to do it!

1. Go to https://ipsw.me/

2. Find your model of iPhone

3. See iOS version being signed (you want 9.3.5)

4. Download the IPSW file to your computer.

5. If signed in to iCloud on your iPhone sign out of Find My iPhone

6. Put iPhone in to DFM (Recovery Mode) (Hold down power and home button for 10secs, then release power button for 5 secs) (search google or youtube for video if you get suck)

7. Load iTunes and connect your iPhone to your mac / PC

8. If using a mac load the phone tab then click (while holding options) the Restore iPhone button.

9. Browse and select the IPSW file you downloaded above.

10. Let iTunes restore your phone.

Hopefully you have a iOS 9 backup because your not able to restore a iOS10 backup if running iOS9.

Enjoy your phone running 9.3.5.

P.S i have a iPhone 6 running iOS 10 and i have no problems in fact i find iOS 10 better! Maybe try a clean install?

Hope that helps!

9.3.5 is still being signed, though that could end literally at any time. Download it from ipsw.me for your model, follow the instructions here: http://osxdaily.com/2016/09/14/howto-downgrade-ios-10-to-9/ It's not particularly difficult.

However:

You will not be able to restore from any backup taken on ios 10. So if you have a backup available from when you were still on ios 9, you can use that after downgrading and only lose a little data. But if you don't have one from before you went to ios 10, you'll have to setup as a new device.

It's up to you to decide whether or not it's worth it to you. For me, while I don't particularly like 90% of the new features (and also don't use 3D touch), I don't hate it enough to go through the hassle of downgrading.
