I need a simple answer

I own a Mac Pro 1,1 2007 Model which has a Intel Xeon 2.66Ghz Dual Core in which i am in the process of upgrading but i am seeking advice regards to the correct CPU to purchase i currently have someone offering from a company a pair of Intel Xeon QUAD CORE X5450 3.0 GHz / 12MB / 1333 MHz SLASB - Socket 771 CPUs will they be ok

Congrats SimplyMac2012! The 2006-2008 Mac Pros were built like tanks. Was comparing the physical hardware between a 2008 and 2009-2012 and the aluminum enclosure of the older 1.1-3.1 were more solid and heavier. I guess Apple made use of premium material on early Mac Pros.

That's funny.

We weighed a side panel at work and found that the 2009/2012 units were ever so slightly heavier then the 2006-2008 units (someone said the exact same thing as you), but this difference was so negligible that you might as well say they're the same.

Likewise, the internal structure is completely different so you can't compare the machine on weight alone. If you're going to try and go down that route, then I might as well say that all your new fangled Mac Pros are ****- and that the Quad G5 is where it's at.

Hi ScottishCaptain. There was a time I hand carried a 2008 and 2010 Mac Pro to the second floor it was a long climb so for carrying them at longer durations, I could tell which gave me a more exhaustive move. Also tapped the side panels and both sounded different plus the when you close the latch to lock the removable side panel, the 2008 seemed more solid. But hey, moving forward, if the 2009 models are heavier in your observation, no problem as we probably have our own ways of gauging the weight. Thanks
