I am looking to buy a new MacBookPro, mainly for music production, light video editing and everyday use for school.
I was wondering whether I should get the base model MacBook Pro (2017) with i7 or the MBP 2018 with i5, both laptops will have 16Gb ram.
I have heard about heating and crash issues on the MBPro 2017 and 2018 and I feel the touch bar is not very beneficial right now.
(P.S battery life is important to me)
Both laptops have their pro's and cons, I can't seem to decide which one would be the better buy.

The other option I have is waiting for the new 2019 MacBook Pro.

Would greatly appreciate any input in making this decision.

Thanks,
J

What's your budget?

Given the level of performance you're expecting from your machine, a good purchase would be a 2017 15" MBP, refurbished ($1900 on Apple's website). They're good as new, and I believe they will outperform the 13" 2018 MBPs.

I was looking into getting the 2018 Macbook Pro 13", 16 gig ram refurbished which is around 2200CAD, and the 15" mbp 2017 is around 2.5 Cad i think,
Oh, do you think that is a better buy ?

I agree with the previous poster the 15inch will give you more bang for your buck and a 256 GB ssd off the gate...... only down fall is portability I had a 2015 15 inch pro and it wasn’t really suited for a class room setting very big and definitely draws attention

My budget is around 2300-2400 CAD nothing more than that.

I mean i usually dont take my laptop out during class unless its necessary, most of the time i just write notes, i use it in the library alot and if the 15" is heavy then it would be a pain carrying it to and from my place --> class--> library --> my place.

If you call a pound difference being much heavier then yes lol but the 13 inch is 3 pounds the 15 inch is 4 pounds the weight difference isn’t as big as it was in past generations but weight here isn’t the issue it’s the volume of the entire computer the 15 inch takes up more space. If you will be looking at it for long long Periods of time 15 inch all day short increments throught the day 13 inch. Will be used in a class room desk 13 inch. Compare your pros and cons

Yea ill be looking at the screen for a while, 15 inch seems tempting especially for production the bigger screen size is defenitely a plus point, But, the 15" pro you had were you able to pull it out on a bus ride or like on flights and stuff with ease? Like was there any hassle you felt ?

Ok disregard my last post go with the 15 inch it literally has everything you would want and is more future proof and a 4 core cpu And a 2018 6 core

Personally I carried around a 2013 13 inch mbp which is equivalent in size to the new mbp trust me you won’t be huffing and puffing and begging girls to massage your back but instead will be looking for this post and thanking us.

My 15 inch was a 2015 much much bigger but like I said in my previous post the new 15 inch pro is like carrying a 13inch From 2015 and earlier you will have no hassle pulling it out on a bus or Train trust me. If anything you have a 14 day return window.

Thanks,
I hope I can use it for a long time because 2.3-2.4 CAD is steep.
