Hi there,

I am very new to this but I have been told that this is the site to use.

These are the details;
Mac OS X 10.4.11

Model Name: Mac mini
Model Identifier: Macmini1,1
Processor Name: Intel Core Duo
Processor Speed: 1.66 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per processor): 2 MB
Memory: 512 MB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz

My housemate has downloaded the new software 10.5 Leopard.
My disc drive is broken, how would I go about installing it and would it work?

Many thanks in advance.

Either get an external ODD (around 20 to 30 €) or copy the .iso to a USB flash memory thumb drive via CarbonCopyCloner and boot from it.

great! Thanks for quick reply. I have an ext hard-drive, I was just checking that my model could handle the upgrade??
How would I do it? form the hard drive, I am a complete novice at this stuff!

If you know anyone with an external superdrive then you can use it. I know that the external super drives that were released with the macbook air works with the mini too.

sorry, not the hard drive model, the Mac mini. all I know is that I would put the leopard 10.5 on the ext hard drive then.....

Simply connect the external DVD drive with your 10.5 disc, open Disk Utility (under Utilities on the Mac Mini) right click on the 10.5 DVD, will be on the left side panel of Disc Utility, select the restore option with the 10.5 DVD as your source and the Mac Mini hard drive as destination.

Thanks, I went to try that today but when I switched on my mac I got a black screen and this flashing message:

dyld: library not loaded: /usr/lib/libconv.2.dylib

Referenced from: /bin/sh

Reason: incompatible library version: sh requires version 7.0.0 or later, but libconv.2.dylib provides version 5.0.0
