i need help on creating a business card and Post card sized flyers

So i recently registered my companies name, and now I'm looking to create business cards and PostCard (5x7 or 4x6) flyers, like the ones you find from clubs/lounges/disco.

I am a beginner. I do however have the Master Suite CS4.

Any help would be great. Currently i am just using photoshop and putting things together. Its pretty rough right now.

I'm not really asking for creative ideas, more of technical one.

For example. I am thinking of using indesign to make the postcard sized flyer. They have on template available but i was wondering if i could get more. As well as business cards. I remember getting a business card from someone who writes for iLounge and it looked amazing. I dont have one on me and i cant find one online right now.

Are there any specific business card programs out there that i can look at?

Below is a rough idea I had. Its for a fitness company.

I don't mean to sound perverse, but if I don't say it someone else will. With the placement of the women bent over doing yoga, in the lower right hand corner, and the guy running behind her, looks pretty bad. I hat to say it, but it looks like he is taking her from behind.

Mass produced prints are always overprinted a certain size and the 4 edges are TRIMMED. Be careful what you have at the edges.

Once you find a printer, they typically provide the template to use with trim lines, and CMYK color space.

HAHA, i realized the position after i created it. I haven't had time to do anything else really. It reminded me of the Disney hidden objects.

I am trying to make it look like athletes/fitness movements are exploding out from the bottom right. Then under the name will have the details/catch phrase and the back will have all the information - phone number, website, email etc.

Word processing apps are not made for mass produced prints if you want 100% control over placement and fonts.

You're obviously running a professional business here, so you really need to talk to a professional and get a professional job done. Why are you looking at business cards, why are you looking at flyers? How are you going to market your business?

Clubs and discos might give out flyers, but who says your gym should be doing the same?

You're scaring me with talk of templates and what we've seen so far. I'm not having a go at you, but having the tools does not make you a designer or marketer.

If you're giving out naff business cards, what does that say about your company? You've got silhouettes of people exercising - do people need the purpose of a gym to be demonstrated to them in an illustration for instance?

I use InDesign CS3 for my company's business cards. Lay it out in ID (place vector graphics from AI, if you have any) and then save it as a template (indt) file. Then for every person that needs one, just open the template (which gives you an "Untitled.indd" file) and enter in the specific info. Export as a PDF with full bleed (if necessary), trim marks, etc.

Just looking at your first design for a business card it looks like a student's work, and not the greatest student. If you have a professional business you need to look professional. You can have the best gym in the world, but if you dont look like a professional legit business then no one will go to your business. People are more likely going to side with the more popular, more professional looking business over a "home made" business. Would you buy a new TV from Best Buy or would you buy it from a guy running his store out of a garage? If you are serious about your business you need to get a professional designer and get them to create an identity. Im also not sure on the name To Fitness. What is the story behind that?

My company is new and its not looking to lunch until May 2009. It is a bootcamp styled weekend business. I am still in school completing my Hon. BSc in Human Biology/Cells and Systems Biology.

I am working under limited funds right now. I really appreciate all of your input.

And for the name. It is TO Fitness as in T.O. Fitness not To Fitness.

I think either way TO or T.O. is still an awkward name. Also, im sure many people might assume its by the football player T.O. or maybe its just me

Below is a rough idea I had. Its for a fitness company.

Technical aspect: Find out the specs from your printer first. Most printers will be fine with a PDF file, however, some do not accept PDF. Request a template if possible.

InDesign will let you set the bleed, registration, crop marks, etc. for PDF output.

Standard-size for business card is 3.5" x 2", 6" x 4" for postcard. I don't think it's necessary to acquire a template for these.

Creative aspect: Creatives are extremely cluttered for such a small layout as a business card. As someone as pointed out, the composition is unintentionally suggestive

I would go with stronger, more angular, and graphic shapes to convey strength.

Contrast of complimentary colors would further enhance the composition. The current color-scheme is too muddy.

"T.O." may be something that only Torontonians will get If you must have "T.O.", enhance it so it's perfectly clear it's "T.O.", add those periods-- don't use "TO", because the result is, well, "to".

My 2 cents: Stick to the basics. Nice, clean design. Easy to read. Avoid over-design that obscures the information.

There is too much overlap of people and trees shoved into the one corner.

I would try a more simplified look, perhaps a silhouette of only one person exercising, or a gym machine or something like that.

Also, the black and green is a little too dark.

Just some quick comments. I hope I don't sound mean, I know how hard it is to get criticized all the time! I get it on all the stuff I make too!
