What is the file you downloaded? If it ends in something like .sit, it's a compressed file that needs to be opened with StuffitExpander from Allume Systems. This is similar to .rar or .zip in the PC world. Stuffit will also expand pretty much every other format, so install that first and you're set!
If you're looking for another player, VLC will play pretty much anything you throw at it right out of the box.

Good luck,
llama :)

Oh and congrats on the new iBook and welcome to the Mac world! I see in your other threads you where very nicely welcomed and helped, so i'll try to follow their good examples. :)

VLC will play all .wmv formats except WMV3. For WMV 3, you need Media Player. BTW, it's the most crappy program for OS X.

That's like saying that a word processor handles documents created by all versions of Word up to Word 5.1. In my experience, a substantial number of WMV files require WMP 9 or higher. WMP 9 may suck, but it is the only free player that handles the majority of WMV files that I see.

And from what I've seen, the non-free ones don't work as well lol.

I bought flip4mac's wmv player for a feature or two plus the ability to not have wmp on my computer. 2 weeks later, I have wmp again. It's the only thing that will play my lossless music from my PC and will consistently play wmv on the net... like from amazon which I frequent.
