My Apple Store App on my iPhone has a problem. It will not let me make a purchase using my Apple Card with monthly installments. Full price is fine. I was told that I could buy it full price and then call to convert to monthly installments. So, I pre order the iPhone 14 Pro Max 512GB on pre order day and pay full price. Apple told me that they couldn't convert it to monthly installments, but Apple Card could. When the charge hit, I converted it. Then, I starting thinking that I want the 1TB model. So, on launch day, I find inventory at my local Apple Store and I order it using Safari on the Mac with monthly installments. I pick up the pre ordered iPhone from UPS yesterday and immediately go the Apple Store to return the 512GB iPhone and pick up the one I just ordered. I wanted to make sure that the monthly installments on the iPhone I pre ordered would be erased as I returned it. The Apple people didn't know, but when I talked with an Apple Card person yesterday, I was told that the amount would go to available balance and it wouldn't be a credit. Guess what. A credit showed up today on my account. I complained to Apple Card. It went up the chain of command and is now a 'complaint' and I should hear from them within 10 days. I have a few monthly installments. I should not have to pay a monthly installment on a product that I do not own.

Like any credit card dispute, keep all of your documentation, including a detailed timeline, in case it's needed while Apple Card investigates. I assume you got a return receipt from the Apple Store as well. That will have the returned iPhone S/N on it. If you haven't already received a letter online from Apple Card, you should receive one outlining your rights, the process, and possible next steps. Mistakes get made, but it will likely get resolved within that 10 days.

I did get a return receipt. Thanks for the knowledge!

I would also find out if Goldman Sachs is handling this as a billing dispute (not a "complaint"), and if so, confirm you do not need to follow the dispute reporting steps mentioned in this article if a case has already been opened.

If you've received a case number, does GS provide a way on its website for you to track its progress? And confirm whether they need additional details or documentation from you at this point. These things do take time--you can imagine the volume they deal with--so it's worth the patience needed.

(FWIW I recently went through a dispute with a different credit card company, and it was handled professionally and within the time period they quoted. I received regular email communication and could track the status onine.)

The moment you notify a credit card company and dispute a charge, you do not have to make any payments while the investigation is ongoing.

I went a couple more rounds with Apple Card. They wouldn't take off the credit and apply it to the remaining balance, so I paid off enough of the monthly installments to wipe out the bogus, I mean phantom iPhone. I'll pay myself back as the credit gets shaved down by charges.
