Hi everyone. I very recently ordered a new 24-inch 2.8 iMac with 4 GB's of ram, does anyone else have this configuration? I'm wondering if you can tell me how it runs? I'm very anxiously waiting for it (been checking the order status page several times a day) I'm sure it will run very fast and smooth, but can anyone tell me how quiet it is? I've upgraded this from the old 20-inch white iMac, can't wait to see how big the screen is.

Thanks in advance.

It's wicked fast, as they say around these parts. :D

And the screen is glorious. Mine runs silent apart from a little hard-drive juggling on boot-up.

I ordered one, too. On August 9. Still waiting for it to ship...

You ordered on August 9th and it still hasn't shipped?? That makes me a little nervous. I just ordered mine on August 22nd. Did you get it with a Wireless Keyboard or mouse? I've heard that that can really slow down the process. Mine is still saying that it will ship between August 29th-August 31st.

Hopefully you didn't pay Apple $700 for the 4 Gb of RAM... Third party RAM from a reputable dealer is far less expensive, and user installable and does not void any warranty.
C'mon, don't harsh his mellow, dude!

I didn't pay Apple $700 for RAM, my work did. But it seems some people take personal offense for just buying RAM from Apple when you order the computer, like it's a mortal sin or something. I've read all of the back and forth banter about buying RAM from Apple or a reseller, and that's not what I started this thread for, I just want to know how good this system runs with this configuration, that is all.

Ya this is a nice system... I have not used it yet but I am sure it will run VERY fast..... Alas I dont have the money for one but I am thinking about picking up a mini just for a little boost from my iBook G4 cause the benchmarks on the mac mini are like 4 times faster..... and I LOVE the new iMovie (yes I have used it a good bit) and my G4 cant run it....

I also have a Mac mini with 2GB's of RAM, I have it hooked up to a Wacom Cintiq 21UX digital art tablet. It runs really good with that thing, running Photoshop CS3, and other art programs, so I'm betting you'll be pretty happy with it.

'S Ok, I don't have any vested interest in it one way or another.

Just if you were a newbie who wasn't aware (and there's really no way for us to tell), it's better to know now and have the option to cancel the order and reorder a stock config, then to find out too late that a bunch of your hard earned money is now a line item on Apple's profit column.

Good points, but in this case I'm not a newbie, I've been an Apple user for several years. Now my biggest problem is waiting for the thing to get here!

Well, I didn't order direct from Apple. MacMall has a rebate, so I went with them. If you're going straight from Apple, you'll probably have better luck. Near as I can tell, except for Apple and some of their retail stores, everyone else is backordered on the 2.8. I didn't order the wireless.
