I received a replacement machine after returning my MBP SR for a yellow display a week ago.

The new machine lists the correct part number for the Seagate Momentus 7200.2 in "about this mac," (ST9160823AS). But the label on the box does not state 7200RPM, nor does the sticker under the battery. The new label reads: "MBP 15/2.4GHZ/2x1G/160/SD" The sticker inside the machine is the same.

I recall that my first machine had a sticker that mentioned the RPM of the drive, and I have seen photos of these stickers as well.

I am sure that Apple is not trying to stiff me out of a drive, but could there have been a mistake? The Genius bar and product specialists keep pointing to "about this mac" as the last authority on the specs. of the machine, but that field is probably not propegated at the time of the instalation of the drive, so I don't consider it a definative answer.

Do I need to pop the top off to find the answer or is there another way.=?

Thanks, and sorry if this sounds conspiratorial - if apple would label consistently it would never have entered my mind.

using "about this mac" in the apple menu is the definitive way to see what your components are...

it will show you serial #s on all parts, speed and quality of your ram, etc etc...

A search at the Seagate website shows that it is indeed a 7200RPM.

Click here then click on the "Technical Specifications" tab for the Seagate Momentus 7200.2 160GB Drive.

"About this Mac" is the authoritative place to go for information on your drive. The information in it is re-pregnated every time you open it by pulling the data directly from the hard drive itself.

Thanks yippy (and others), this is what I was looking to confirm - to bad that Apple could not describe it to me in this fashion.
