I Pad , connecting to phone to use its data

I am new to this so please be patient if it has been asked before .
I have a I -Pad which I would like to use in a light aircraft for flight planing gps etc , I have Huawei P smart 2019 on tesco mobile and I am trying to connect to it to use its mobile data connection , the devices are paired but it show's on the i pad as ,,,
Huawei p smart 2019 not connected i .
on the huawei it shows in paried devices as Bryan's I pad , however when clicking on the gear symbol which takes me into profiles and has two "profiles"
internet access and contacts Sharing , they have two sliders to turn them on but they are "greyed out " and will not respond ??
I hope someone can help me

Are you sure that Tesco allows tethering? I ask because you say that the slider to turn on internet access on the phone is greyed out. Usually the cell phone provider is the one that controls whether it is possible to turn on tethering (providing internet access).

thank you for your reply , it gave me a clue as to the problem I had not turned on portable WIFI hotspot , that cured it
