Hi, I found an Iphone 4s which has a passcode on it, from what i can tell the phone was on the network Fido (canada). Does anyone know what i can do with it, can i get it unblocked and use it in the UK, or sell it for parts.

Thanks

Yep, return the phone to the carrier or the police.

Since it's likely now listed as lost or stolen, you are in violation of Receiving Stolen Property or some similar ordinance.

Seems kinda obvious the OP has no intention of handing this 'found' iPhone to the proper authorities.

I believe in Karma. ;)

Completely bad info.
Can't do that on a 4S and even if you could jb you cannot unlock it.
Why does everyone think jailbreaking is the same as unlocking?

Yes you can do that on iPhone 4s.If it has 5.1.1 and you didnt upate it you can just re-restore to 5.1.1 with SHSH

But if you update to iOS 6 you are stuck

Be a man, and return it (do the right thing). Even handing it to Fido might allow fido to figure out the customer information. Someone would really appreciate your gesture.

That's if it has full shsh blobs saved by its original owner and was not updated OTA.
Many many ifs and most likely it's not even on 5.1.1 anyway so it's not happening.
Doing the right thing is better and more rewarding in the end;)
And again he still won't be able to use it as a phone since its locked.

Or 5.1.1 was not the factory fresh firmware initially installed on the device.

Yup. Was gonna say that. Devices which can re-restore to 5.1.1 are pretty rare. 99% of those devices are/were owned by people who jailbreak and stay in the loop on all the jailbreak details. In this case, its extremely unlikely. The biggest hurdle of all for this to work was exactly what you posted. In order for it to work, the device had to have been restored to 5.1.1 with iTunes; it could not be restored OTA or factory default. On top of that, you need full blobs (SHSH and APTicket).

How could you downgrade to 5.0.1 from 5.1.1 on a 4s from example before?

There was a software hack/exploit used that allowed that only in certain cases with full blobs and with the 4S had to be restore using itunes and not OTA or if came like that from the factory. Anyway that has been patched ever since and there is no other option currently to replay those SHSH blobs in order to downgrade or re-restore a 4S or an i5.

The chances are that someone already knows you have the phone! Nearly everyone I know has the Findmyphone option activated so expect a knock at your door shortly. :)
