i have a mac book and now wish to buy an i phone however i would like to unlock myself if possible, can anyone advise of where i can download the ziphone unlocking aoftware and what do i need to do to use my current o2 contract sim to use the phone.
i currently use my pc on a wireless router box so if i use the i phone does this mean it will pick up internet connection without having to oay o2 for the web browsing
\
sorry to ask so many questions

what phone will i get in shops now, versin wise i mean, does it matter which one?

cheers in advance for assistance

Download the Ziphone software from: http://www.ziphone.org/

Once unlocked you should be able to put your current O2 sim in, and it should work.

The iPhone should pick up the wifi, and you should be able to browse the net on it wireless without having to pay O2.

The newest iPhone version is 1.1.4, and that is the one you'll get if you buy an iPhone from an Apple Store. I don't think it matters - Ziphone should handle it.

query

2 questions

can i buy form an o2 store without hassle of signing a contract

am i likely to brick it if i follow the ziphone process

can i do it myself, previous poster suggests not!!!

Right, you can buy it from O2 or the Apple Store, or online. If you don't want the contract that's fine, when you get home and plug it into iTunes it'll ask you to setup your contract but if you want to unlock it ignore that prompt and follow some guides on unlocking, a quick search on the forum will do. The previous poster was joking, because you said you wanted to unlock yourself, not the phone. :p

You will get version 1.1.4, or 1.1.3, depends when the iPhone was made, but it doesn't matter, because you're not gonna be stuck with that version, it updates itself. If you mean model version, then there are two models. 8GB and 16GB.

The O2 contract comes with unlimited web use, but if you're not going on the contract then yes, you will have to pay to use the internet when not in a Wi-Fi spot, however, when connected to your own Wi-Fi connection, you will not have to pay. :)

thanks

thanks to all the posters here for their replies

looks quite easy to unlock,i take it i dont really need to switch the phone on or input any sim in until the unlocking is done.
I have a current 02 contract i can use for the phone element, text and calls, guess no other fees involved in running the phone unless someone knows different

thanks again
