I just upgraded my i Photo 1.? to 5.? and now when I open the program it takes a few minutes for any photos to start showing up in the library. Also when I click on an album they open quikly. Please assist. Thanks in advance. Curt

iphoto 5 is inherently slower than iphoto 4......more memory=lot faster loading.....i have 1.25gb on my laptop and it still takes a fair amnt of time to open and close it

The guys on the Apple discussion boards did a test and found that the length of time iPhoto takes to open can depend on which digital camera you own. Certain brands have very large notes in their metadata which can bloat the iPhoto library file and lead to increased opening times.

How slow are you talking? Mine takes around 8 seconds to bring in 8000 pics

Thanks apple spider

I only have about 1500 photos and the program takes at least a minute to load with a dual G4 1.25MHZ

Thanks Also Crap Freakboy

I'll check out the i View program but what can I do with iPhoto 5?

Shouldn't take that long then. Which camera do you have? I think it was the Nikons which were causing real problems. The Apple boards did have a script you could run to strip out the Maker Note that causes the problem. I'm sure it's one of the iPhoto.db or Library.data files that makes it all slow down. It's supposed to stay under 20 MB but with the odd camera can end up being 200MB plus which makes it slow down.
