how do you change the file siz in i phot??...the pixels...the resolution???...im used to photo shop but dont yet have it on my i book...any help appreciatted

Resizing isn't in iPhoto - if you want to upload to Homepage or attach them to an email etc, then it will ask you what size you want them to be (Small, Medium, Large) and do it then. iPhoto assumes that you want to keep your originals pristine so it doesn't offer the service to shrink them.
You can resize things in Preview and if you copy the files out of iPhoto, you can create Automator actions to shrink them from the Finder. DO NOT resize or rename the original files inside your iPhoto Library from the Finder though or you may corrupt it. You have to copy them to another location and work on the copies.
Of course, you can Export them to the desktop from the Share menu and select a resolution from there but as Applespider says, it's kinda useless. 
iPhoto is not the same kind of program as Photoshop at all. iPhoto is primarily an organization program, with some useful retouching and simple editing features built in, whereas Photoshop is entirely an editor, with very advanced image manipulation abilities.
