Do you think the next iPhone software update will include the dark mode, too?

My gut says no to dark mode coming soon. That being said I do wonder why Apple has not included it yet.

To be quite honest maybe it could happen, now this could mean nothing but I'm going to point this out. Right now with the iPhone 8 we have the perfect balance of bezel colors, with 2 being white and two being black. We've NEVER seen this before. I've always thought that maybe, MAYBE apple is preparing for a dark mode.........

This or Apple is sick of having so many color choices for there main iPhone line.

I suspect that they’re road testing it on Mohave and it’ll be something that we get with iOS 13, when (presumably) they’ll be a bit of redesign when marzipan is launched.

As to what it’ll look like... Take a look at the keynote presentation from WWDC and the new MBP marketing pages.

Both are very similar and are effectively a ‘dark mode’.

They also use a style of graphic design that we haven’t quite seen in iOS or macOS yet.

I’m not a graphic designer but it looks more ‘70s/retro’ (kinda) than we’ve seen in iOS.

And I do wonder if it’ll be seen in the new Watch first.

So I suspect that’s our preview of what iOS dark mode (and marzipan) will look like.

Dark mode in iOS 12 is wishful thinking. As we have seen with macOS, doing dark mode effectively requires an API so 3rd party applications can tap into the system-wide setting as well. Otherwise, only 1st party apps will conform to the dark mode while others will still use a light theme. If Apple were to suddenly announce an iOS dark mode with the release of iOS 12, literally no 3rd party apps will support it at launch since developers will have had no idea it was coming. It would also probably be buggy since it would not have gone through any beta testing. The result would be annoyed users AND annoyed developers, which is not a situation I think Apple wants to get itself into.

As others have said, I don’t think a dark mode is coming before iOS 13 (if it ever gets added at all). It seems like a no-brainer given the potential battery savings that could be had on OLED screens. But, as usual, Apple knows best...

That is what prompted this thread. :)

iOS 13.1.2 included it and its quite useful if you are in a dark room with someone watching TV in a dark room.
