I saw some bloke sitting on the train I was on (on my way home) using windows on he macbook, I shuddered as it looked as though he had removed macOSX and replaced it with that ****** operating system...

It was as if he just bought the mac to run windows on and look cool because he has a mac...

Why oh why do people actually want to replace MacOSX with a crap operating system like that?

I can see the only benifit of playing games that aren't available for mac on windows, but nothing else :(

Maybe he wasn't doing it to look cool. Maybe he just wanted to run his favorite OS on good hardware. Maybe he doesn't care what you think.

There are loads of laptop manufactorers that produce the same quality hardware at a cheaper price. Why would you buy a mac to run windows on, when you could buy a toshiba or sony vio (I'm not saying any of these are as good or better), but in my opinion you buy a mac because it's a mac and comes with macos...

Ah well just my opinion.

Who are you to judge his purchase.. If he truly likes the look of his mac, but really wants to keep Windows, why should you feel sorry for him or question his decision?

I don't get it, I have enough on my mind in my own life, without having to break my head on why my neighbour bought a mac, but uses it to run windows too..

Maybe his work demands to use a custom application that only runs Windows? There is more to a computer than games.

Well actually he was just running word. Maybe I'm wrong...

Nonetheless I just thought it weird to actually see someone using a mac with windows.

I have 2 seperate copies of Windows on my iMac. There are just some programs I need Windows to run. Like Visual Studio (run under Parallels, since I usually need to bounce back and forth between Windows and Mac when I'm developing) and a few games (which won't run under Parallels)

That doesn't mean I don't love my Mac OS X. But sometimes I just need Windows to get stuff done.

Perhaps he wanted to run Word natively. :p

In addition to what people before me have been saying, he probably didnt remove OS X, he was likely running windows under Bootcamp.

No he was deffo running word in windows, not doing much sort of trying to pose whislt moving his mouse round randomly when people went past him, like randomly open and closing a save as dialog.

From what I know he would need bootcamp and I don't think you can remove OSX... Honestly why would you buy a mac to run windows unless like I said you happen to like windows games. Nearly everything else can be done in a virtual machine.

And this makes you sad?! How do you know he had removed Mac OS. Maybe he's only using windows for specific apps. Maybe he prefers the hardware and wants Windows. Or maybe it's none of our buisness.

You know, I like Macs, I like the os too, but it's dawning on me that a large number of Apple users really do fit the sterotype.

THAT was the most horrible thing? I thought you were going to say you saw some little girl fall into the river, or get hit by a train. You need to re-evaluate your rating system for the horrors of life.

Mac users have a right to be snobby! Someone has to compete with BSD and Linux users (unless you are all three)...

Touché. It seems that this person is using the machine exactly as advertised. What was the problem again?

I think...

Putting aside the fact that this is a waste of a thread,

I think the person you saw on the train is actually you. And now you are here trying to justify your actions because you actually hate Macs and want to see how we would react or something.

Why would anyone sit with a Mac trying to look 'cool'? I mean, Macs are cool and the OS is awesome and using it is a huge load of fun. But that is all irrelevant to the simple fact that:

Just because you own a Mac, does NOT make you cool.

I am tired of people who live their lives through the hardware they are using or the possesions they have, or the clothes they are wearing...

We are individuals and we are NOT any 'cooler' for using a Mac or OSX, or an iPod for that matter.

Regards, David

This is just another useless thread about why to run windows on a mac. Get over it people... its the best of both worlds. At work I need windows to connect to my domain and use exchange. I bought a Macbook Pro for its good build quality and sound components. Do I look cool with it? I don't give a f$$k. Use your computer your way and stop worrying about other users...life is much easier that way.

I wouldn't know about BSD and Linux users, but I sure you're right. They probably have their share of oddballs too - people who get worked up about their favoured OS.

In fact, if we were to look hard enough, there's probably a weirdo out there who even gets worked up about his chosen electric toothbrush brand.
