I just saw refurbished Air M1 512GB in Apple store for $1059 a few days after I paid $999 for 256GB. I hate when that happens. These M1’s are so efficient the 8GB RAM does not matter but 512GB storage does in my case.

Could've gotten the 256gb for $899 through Edu or some retailers
if only been a few days can return + get the 512gb if you like.
Should get the machine that suits your needs + budget.
I might do that. How do they handle the Apple Care + if I have already purchased it for the 256GB?
I've gotten refurbs from Apple before. Yes, some may have been used but Apple is really good at their refurbished items.
*Apple* refurbished products are indistinguishable from brand new other than the box it arrives in.
I've bought ipads, computers, other stuff from Apple's refurb store and have never had anything but a completely pristine product.
IMHO there is no reason not to buy an Apple refurb if they have the config you want.
I've also bought openbox from Microcenter and from BestBuy and had good results. Quick call to Apple support and had the warranty period reset to begin on my purchase date.
Makes sense, we're ~5 months from release. About time for refurbs to start showing up.
Per above - if you're still in the return window, buy the refurb and return the other one. AC+ should refund in full.
In my experience, refurbs have been more reliable than new devices.
It's been many years since, but I bought two of my kids refurbished 11" MacBook Airs way back when. Both provided years of solid service until it was time to upgrade. One of them did require service after a couple of months (refused to boot) but Apple serviced the machine under warranty and returned it to me within a week in pristine condition.
Yea I can testify based on experience that Apple refurbs are as great as new, especially since they come with same Apple Care as new device.
M! refurbs have been on the store for a while. I buy from there where I can. In the main, they are just going to be units returned within the 14 days, not repaired machines.
Apple refurbs are flawless and always my goto if available. They usually have new batteries and flawless displays and cases. The battery is like new.
There is nothing wrong with an Apple refurbished model. It is strictly checked and works just like a new one etc. No need to be worried.
I mean...why wouldn't you just return the one you bought? Replace it with a refurb.
I'm typing this on aSpace Grey M1 MBA Refurb. It was in a rather plain brown box, but was and is, flawless.

I bought a refurbished M1 MBA (512GB HD, 16GB RAM) from Apple last week and saved $200. As far as my eyes could tell, it was a brand new machine.
Great purchase for the price and have been really happy so far.
I will definitely consider another refurbished product from Apple in the future.
