i picked up another ipad today

comparison shots.. lights off. 100% brightness. i did lower the exposure a bit in the 2nd picture or it would look even worse.

Those both look horrible. I have just one small leak in the upper right.
But it doesn't bother me. How often an I looking at just pure black on my beautiful ips screen, in the dark?

Why get obsessed about this? If I scrutinized every dinner plate, bicycle, pencil, calculator, hairbrush, pair of trousers, laptop, girlfriend, motorbike and banana that I've ever had in this way, I'd go insane.

If you have the habit of holding an object at strange angles or in unlikely lighting conditions in order to detect flaws, it isn't the object that is flawed.

I wouldn't know if I have light bleed or dead pixels....BECAUSE IT DOESN'T FREEKING MATTER. Seriously....you're not using it to control a nuke plant or land the Space Shuttle.

I just enjoy my cool toy/tool.

Nuff said!

I feel sorry for you that you are so obcessed that you can not simply enjoy your device.

mine and my wife's are perfect. light leaks are annoying but can be expected. If you don't have them right out of the box, you will get them with time. But dead pixels are something i would take a product back for, but again over time they can develope and that should be expected.

Oh no, now I know you have spoilt my whole iPad experience.

....actually my screen is fine and I really could not give a ****. Move along, nothing to see (apart from someone with OCD).

I'll add to the chorus. Just enjoy your toy. If you don't, return it. We should be obsessed with far more important things than electronic toys.

Now please excuse me while I call Colgate-Palmolive. I love their new toothbrush but my last one had 17 more bristles than my current one. I'm worried about the implications not only for plaque, but tartar build up and gum stimulation. Sensitive gums run in my family.

You, sir, made my day :)

OP - I'm actually glad I've more important things to worry about. Keeps me from obsessing about the trivial.

Caubeck I LOVED your post!

I have purchased three ipads -- one for me and two as gifts -- and they do not have any light leak problems whatsoever. None. Nada. Zilch.

For what it's worth I am a professional photographer so yes I know something about white balance, light bleed, etc. and my eyes are trained to look for detail.

And there is nothing wring with any of the devices that I purchased.

In contrast to the OP I would say that while my ipads have been perfect I do believe that some people have purchaed ipads with defective screens. But this does not mean that those of us who report no problems are either lying or delusional.

Seriously, who sits around with their iPad displaying a black screen at maximum brightness in an entirely dark room? My iPad has some minor issues like those displays - I don't know how much better/worse it is because I don't care! 99% of what I do on the iPad you never notice it. If you could, people wouldn't have to sit in a dark room with the brightness jacked up on a black screen to photograph. I can't remember ever owning a display of any kind with perfectly even backlighting, except maybe bulky CRTs back in the day.
