A little birdie told me that they may be coming back, but that was a year ago. :(

I agree, too. The iCards were great for sending casual notes to people.

You can replicate some of the styling with Mail now. Start a new message and click Show Stationary in the new message toolbar. There are a number of themes like with the iCards.

If you are on a Mac just use mail stationary...

I think it's better then iCards (I used to send a lot of them too...)

The cool thing about iCards, they worked from anywhere, so if you are away from your mac, or using an iPhone while out for example, you could send a quick iCard.

I tried this on my Mac using the Mail app, but I do not see any option for Show Stationary. I'm using OS 10.4.11. Is that the problem? Is this option only available in Leopard?

iCards is a sorely missed function of .mac and I too hope that functionality will return in yet another incarnation of iLife
