Hi,
In short, a year ago i had apple replace my iphone 6s batter. After a few months, I went on vacation to a humid area and when i took a shower, the iphone (sitting on a vanity NOT in the shower) had the steam get into the phone. Strange but i took the loss.

I got an iphone 7+ after the 6s. Earlier this year at around June I got the battery replaced by apple again. But this time, I was holding the phone with wet hands and water got in... The water indicator at the sim card is not Red... I looked closer at the phone and there was a small gap if i tried to pry the screen away from the metal frame casing. The 6s had it too leading me to believe it wasnt sealed properly when replaced. Theres no physical damage either. This happened within the 90 warranty but apple was closed due to covid and their warranty states that if there is a defect i need to go to the exact same genius bar.
Now that they are open again, Id like to bring it in to talk to them about it and see if they can do something. Their warranty says the replacement should be free of defects and not remove any functionality of the device. In my opinion, IP67 is a functionality, and the defect clearly removes it. Ive dropped the phone in water, spilled liquid on it, and used it in the rain without any issue until the batter got replaced. (applies to 6s too!)
Any words of advice?

Within the 90-day replacement warranty period, did you contact Apple Support by phone, chat or email to get advice about what to do? If not, my suggestion is to contact Support as soon as possible to explain the situation to see if there's some flexibility about the warranty period.

Yes i did and they made a case number as a reference but they couldn't do anything unless i ship the phone to a depot which isnt what the warranty says to do if theres a defect.

But clearly Support was trying to help you by making an exception because your store was closed. If you decided not to take them up on that offer to send it in, realistically, there's a chance they may not make another exception. Who knows, maybe they will. I hope it works out for you.

Water resistance isn't covered under warranty on a new phone let alone one that's been opened for repair. I would never consider an opened phone water resistant even if Apple does the work. I never take my phone near water even when new, I feel water resistance should only be tested by accident.

I think you got what im saying confused. I know that water damage isnt covered by warranty, but after an official repair by apple, it is supposed to retain all functionality, including water resistance. For example,if i get my battery replaced, and they loosely attached the battery cable and i dropped my phone which led to the cable unplugging....

"Apple warrants for a period of ninety (90) days from the date of service (1) that service will be performed in a competent and workmanlike manner and (2) that all parts used to service your product will be free from defects in materials and workmanship, unless otherwise specified by Apple."
There had to be a defect because the phone wasnt assembled properly (the gap between the frame and screen, thus a functionality, the water resistance, was never there to begin with. The phone also ran hot like crazy after the repair but covid made it difficult to do anything about it.

im not expecting the phone to take a bath.

Oh they said if I dont send it in I can wait and they'll honor my warranty especially since i have a case number.
