I clicked a website to watch free drama. It asked me to install the latest version of Adobe Flash. Then, some booking websites and other random websites showed up. Next, I saw a booking icon showed up in my dock even I did not install it. Then, some kind of malware/virus program got kicked in and started scanning, etc. It was scary. What can I do now?

Malwarebytes detected some stuffs and removed them.

I have used Mac for over 20 years. Never encountered anything like that. Are Mac OS less secure these days?

If you choose to install a program that is malicious, there's no security that can prevent that from happening. The best antivirus is the squishy thing using the computer.

If you go on a site and it tells you to update your version of Flash player from "Flash-Download-Legit.net/we're_on_the_Internet_why_would_we_possibly_lie.html", there's nothing macOS can do to prevent you from installing it if you choose to, other than the standard prompts warning you to be sure you're aware of the source.

The problem is that you told the computer to install bad software.

Malware has always existed for the Mac.

Always get software from the original developers website. Don’t use random links. And stay away from the shady websites.
