I was using iKlear, which is recommended by Apple, and it left permanent streaking on my glass that not even windex will take off

I think iKlear ruined my 24" iMac screen

I hear windex is even worse for ur screen. Maybe you just added insult to injury?
Maybe the screen is different from what iklear is normally used to cleaning?
I will forever and always use just normal papertowl moistened in water.

Uh... it has a picture of an apple.. and then says recommended. Apple Inc. didn't recommend it, some random bruised apple sitting on a super-market shelf recommended it.

That was taken before I tried Windex
Oh damn that doesn't look good, you are taking it very calmly, I know I wouldn't be.
I think you should be able to undo the mess. Just be careful and use nothing abrasive, and especially not windex if you can avoid it.
Or you could always contact Apple about it, but I can't see what they could do for ya.

While not recommended, I used a damp, super soft paper towel and the streaks and marks came right off!! Stay away from iKlear
no need for any cleaner, unless you sneeze on your screen a ton..

That's a little harsh. You should say 'use iKlear for everything except the glass iMac.' Looks like it came right off anyway. Probably cleaned it too!
I have owned this thing barely a week, so pardon my "harsh" tone when discusssing iKlear. I'm just not too keen on that product right now
It just looks like you used too much. Use a damp soft cloth to remove some of it, then start over. Just takes a little bit. Use the included microfiber cloth and wipe it until it feels like the cloth glides over the glass. I've used ONLY iKlear/KlearScreen on my LCD's since Wallstreet days (1998?).
What cloth are you talking about? I didn't get a cloth with my iMac ...
I did... it was a little black cloth that came in the box near the keyboard.

Just spray a little water on the chamois, and use that. Which is likely the best cleaning method for the new iMacs.
Don't want to spray any water on the Mac, since water can get behind the glass panel if you use too much.
We just had a painter do the interior walls in our house and when he sprayed the fireplace mantle some overspray got on my new iMac. I tried water and a cloth diaper and that didn't work because I found out he used oil based paint on it. I decided to try denatured alcohol on a little section of the screen and it took the paint off and didn't harm the screen so I did the whole thing and it looks like new. I'm sure Apple would freak out but I didn't know what else to do. I'm not recommending you do that but it worked for me. In the past all I've used is a diaper that's slightly damp and then dry it off.
If the paint came off with denatured alcohol, it was probably latex. I had some paint work done a little over a year ago and one of the painters was a little exuberant. His boss came to fix splatters he got on everything, which included my black TV and my PC monitor. He used denatured alcohol to remove the latex paint. He told me if I ever get dried latex on anything, denatured alcohol will take it right off, "painter's trick." He even left me some. From my experience with oil based stuff, it would have taken a tougher solvent than alcohol to break up dried oil base. Laqcuer thinner or enamel reducer. Mineral spirits will usually only attack it if it's relatively fresh.
i tried the iClear stuff --- it's ok but hard to buff it all off the screen

It is pretty hard to permanently damage glass with chemicals. I would say you just have some streaking. Alcohol will probable take that right off.
