I Think I've Made A Huge Mistake - Brand New 2011 Mini is SLOW

So after I saw the update and realized the 2011 Mid-Range Mini would run Starcraft 2 (my one requirement) better than the new 2012 Mini.

So I busted my butt trying to find one, and luckily, one of the Apple Stores about 30 Miles away had a couple. By the time I got there, I managed to snatch the last one. Hooray!

Uhh, guys? Is it SUPPOSED to be this Slow?

My Macbook, which was a model 3 years older than the 2011 Mini I just bought, never lagged on things like 'opening files' or 'clicking on menus'. Maybe it's just the installation of SC2 I'm running, but my Macboook didn't lag when I tried to install SC on it! In addition, the goddamned Audio cable doesn't work, and both the wireless mouse and keyboard (which worked fine with my Macbook) are glitching out and slow as hell. And maybe it's just my imagination, but I swear the HDMI port looks worse on the TV monitor than the VGA to Mini cable I ran through my Macbook.

What in the Bleeping Crapnuts is going on? Can one install slow down my computer this friggen much? I'm furious - first the new Mini's I'd been waiting for would be worse at what I wanted, and now I can't believe how terribly this brand new computer is performing!

Help?
 
Dont expect blazing speeds from the stock 5400rpm hard drive. Im typing this on my mid-range mini (with ssd), and the only lagging I will see is if I am playing games like startcraft at 1920x1080 with higher settings.

If your brand new mini is lagging from easy tasks (besides opening programs, since the HD is terribly slow), something is wrong.

Also, the mouse, keyboard, and HDMI port should work fine, as they all do on my current and 2009 mini without ever having a problem.
 
I've experienced the samething with my 2011 Mac Mini here at work. It had 2Gs of ram in it and I updated to 4Gs. It helped a little but, it still lags, I feel more than it should.

Good thing is, my manager is buying me 16Gs of ram for the mac mini. Should be in within the next week or so. I asked for a SSD drive as well but, I am not sure (nor have I heard) if that's going to be bought.

I'll stay subscribed to this thread and post up how the mac mini works with the 16Gs of ram once I get it installed.
 
Your new Mac is probably indexing (Spotlight), give it an hour and see if it improves.
 
What made you "realize" the old one ran games better? From what I've seen, the HD4000 is actually almost on-par with the dedicated GPU in the 2011 mini.

Add to that the Ivy Bridge processor, faster RAM...
 
The SSDs make a big difference. Also, you can up it to 16GB for less than $100.

Why anyone cant wait a day or two to see some real world views is beyond me.
 
Joy and Happyness, all problems have been resolved! Thank you once again Apple for your stellar Customer Service!

Half the problems were my own (misunderstanding cords, underestimating the effect of heat, ect), but the largest set of problems stemmed from some preference pane (we don't know which) that had gotten transfered over from my Laptop during setup. Whatever that odd app did, it crippled the mini - even 'Safe Boot' was terribly slow - so slow that it would have been funny if both me and the tech hadn't thought there was something terribly wrong with the computer. But once the preferences had been deleted, the computer started working fine.

Sand SC2 plays well at higher graphics than I was expecting! I'm very happy with it now. Yay!
