I recently sold my old iphone and got a notification today that the phone was using my imessage. I erased all content but it seems I should have turned off iMessage before selling but I didnt. I dont know how they would even know my password to sign into my account. But my real question is, because they signed on to my imessage, did they receive messages from my current phone? even deleted ones? I'm freaking out because I know I have sent personal info through my messages. But if i deleted them before they activated my imessage, will they still receive them? I have since changed my password. It also said my old phone was hooked up to my icloud. i have never set up icloud on any of my phones current or old. I'm just so confused as to how this could have happen if i erased all settings and if the current owner doesn't know my password. please help. I have contacted the person who owns the phone now but i'm just curious if they have received deleted messages.

I assume before selling it you disabled Find my iPhone and performed a Factory Reset?

Because whoever bought it from you could only sign into your iTunes account if they knew your password.

Otherwise Activation Lock would have prevented them from setting up the device "as new".

But they wouldn't be able to see any text/iMessages w/your personal data. I've reformatted my phone before and restored from a back up and any erased messages have never reappeared.
