Is there a way to make it do this?

The whole point of transparency mode is to be able to hear what someone is saying to me, or my surroundings.Turning on transparency mode is great, but if the music doesn’t stop then it defeats the purpose.

Its a little awkward to have to pause the music, then enable transparency mode, then turn ANC back on and restart the music.

My sonys do everything in one hand command. I’m hoping I am missing something here.

I don’t think they should, so I guess Apple can’t please everyone.

Have you thought about a Shortcut? Don’t know if it’s supported though

And that's the thing, you can not please everyone and then a lot of people want to be catered too.

I think I'm old school then, since I have ever owned earbuds if someone came up to talk to me I would remove at least one of them from my ear to immediately show the person I was paying attention to them.
This happens multiple times on flights, or shopping in stores, which for myself is pretty much the only time I will put them in

If the AirPods don't do what you would like I would suggest sticking with the Sony's.

For me, they work exactly the way I was envisioning them too, no surprises but I can understand they aren't for everyone.

There is already another thread about this. The point of transparency is to let you hear your surroundings. It’s not about talking to people while wearing pods in your ears. If you want to pause the music for conversation, take one (or both) pods out of your ears.
