I thought Macs didn't crash

I got my new MacBook Air today (11"/2GB/1.4GHz/64GB) and I installed Flash 10 and ClickToFlash.

Channel 4oD's website had crashed the Mac twice now. Crashed as in the whole thing locks up. I feel like I'm back in the 90's or something!

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Where did you get the impression that Macs don't crash? Any computer can crash, regardless of the OS installed.

somehow, something got really messed up in the installation of one or both of those... throw them away or uninstall bot and se if the issue presists. You can also boot the MBA while holding down the "D" key (will take a while) and then it will run Apple Diagnostics and check its own hardware. If there is a problem there... get it replaced.

I've had Macs for years and I can't remember the last time I had to do a force restart. I thought each application ran in its own little area and you could Force Quit it if it was misbehaving. That's what all my other Macs have done.

Well it's probably crashing because of Flash.........

Try a different browser or try not using ClickToFlash.

Technology is never perfect. It wasn't your physical Mac that crashed anyways.

Not a big fan of ClickToCrash, myself.

I use Safari without Flash, and use Chrome (with its integrated Flash Player) when I need Flash.

Windows has been just as stable as Macs since Windows 7. It has been OK since Windows 2000 as long as you reboot a lot.

Flash (on any platform) will crash like crazy. It may bring your browser down (depending on the browser - I think Chrome has some protection).

Run Disk Utility (Search Spotlight for Disk Utility- Top right of screen-) and verify the disk and its permissions. Bet it fixes your issue.

My Mac crashes regularly — as in the whole system freezes up. Seems to have started around the time I updated to 10.6.5, and still with 10.6.6. Before that I would have agreed with all the comments about OS X being rock solid.

This has no relevance to the machine crashing, odds are it was caused by flash.

My iMac has the same problem; it started with 10.6.3. It's so bad I just rolled back to 10.6.2 and so far no crashes.

odds are it was caused by flash.

People really buy into the Flash is bad thing, don't they? Rather sad, its not perfect, but attributing a hard crash to Flash itself really sad. Odds are its ClickToFlash causing the issue, or a hardware issue (Flash uses CPU, CPU usage causes heat, a badly installed heatsink could result in hard lockups, bad memory is another possibility).

Never had a hard crash due to Flash ever on OSX, no ClickToFlash, sure, had the share of browser crashes, but this is unlikely to be a pure Flash issue.

I have the same setup. The only problem is that Flash does not play nice with Chrome either. I have Flash crash Chrome nearly every time I use it.

I also have Firefox with NoScript installed for that reason. I find it better than Chrome for watching Flash content, especially because you have the option to individually allow Flash elements to play via NoScript. Has been much more stable for me. The only pain is that I have to download the latest version of Flash for Firefox myself since it is not baked in like Chrome.

4od always crashes my mac that's flash for you it works in firefox fine though
