I have an iPod Nano 3rd Generation plugged into my Universal Dock, the original one. And i have the original apple av cable plugged into the line out on the dock going into the tv and the video displays on the tv fine. Looks like you don't have to rebuy the cables if you already had the original universal dock and the original av cables.
 
It's the video-out that came out of the headphone jack that was discontinued. On all new iPods, the only video-out signal comes from the 30-pin dock connector.
