This isnt trying to prove anything, just thought it would be fun to see which pics people thought looked best. I took all these handheld in low light and resized them all in Paint to be as close as possible. All cameras were on auto with no flash.

I am about to take a pic of something else under better light(the camera will be in the same order for each set of pics)

Dont cheat!

2nd photo in each case has good detail but also seem to be least accurate in color.

2nd has coolest white balance, which looks good to me on the tape measure but looks overly cold in first image, it's hard to tell what colour your couch is/or should be. In the first pic I think a mix of 2 & 4 (something in between) would be better/preferable

Going for the one that just looks most natural, I would choose:

set 1 - last pic

set 2 - looks like it'd really be the last one there too, only you got the angle a bit different than pics 1-3 on that one so the light hits differently and creates that imbalance.

(nice thread, more stuff like this! :))

Have filters been added to some of the photo's? It looks like 3 of them have a cream tone filter. Number 2 in each set looks the best because it demonstrates better white balance and seems more natural in colour to me.

People are quick to point out 2 for true whites but look at how dull the yellow on the tape measure is. It has no life. Pics 3 and 4 for me.

I agree. That dog in pic 2 looks like someone's about to perform an autopsy on it

Preference for warm whites vs cool whites varies by geographic region.

I can't remember the exact details, but it's something like... Northern Europeans prefer cool white, whereas Southern Europeans prefer warm.

Other regions (there are about half a dozen) have their own distinct preferences.

Not knowing what the actual colors are supposed to be, pic 2 in both seems closest to what believe they should be. So my pick is number 2, followed by 4, then 3 and 1.

One of the cameras is a DSLR with a UV filter, the other three are phones. I will take some daylight pics today then post what the the cameras are

#2 has the best white balance, more natural colors and best detail.

The rest look piss yellow/brown.

#3 is a distant 2nd.

#1 is 3rd.

#4 is too saturated and artificial such as the case color and lacks detail. Probably the worst.

#2 is washed out, just look at the yellow part of the tape measure (as pointed out by another poster), the yellow isn't yellow it's more of a cream color. I think #3 in both sets look the best. Crisp, good color representation.

2.Moto G
3.Galaxy S5

Surprising ...

From your own perspective as you are the only one to know what colours things should be and of course - you are the only one with the full size images - which did the better job / most accurate ?

T2i and GS5. All the cameras were on auto mode, the T2i was on no flash mode. The light was low in both shots but the tape measure was on a desk under a lamp

Gotta be in it to win it

Played it well, couldn't tell from my 5s. However in a real situation I would have used my grey card to adjust the white balance of the t2i or at least tweaked the white balance settings; on my canon equipment never shoot fully automatic. Also would have used the tone curves to adjust the camera so the highlights aren't blown out.

Given the thousands of camera available and working without exif it's like playing pin the tail on the donkey.

Never would've guessed it was a Moto G. Thing is a beast for the price. Would've been interesting to toss an iPhone 6/6+ in but they too would suffer from piss yellow/brown white and loss of detail.

Yeah they Moto G is great, love it. My only complaint and it might be an issue with the app is when I am listening to podcasts on Dogcatcher podcast app and browsing in Chrome Dogcatcher will stop sometimes.
