Hey all,
So I finally got to transferring my music library (9,300+ songs, a couple hundred of them in ALAC, the rest in MP3) to my iPhone 8+... but now, any attempt to open Music.app results in the app hanging for about a minute before it crashes and takes me back to the Home screen.
I was wondering if this is normal behavior and I need to wait for the phone to index the music library, or if something else is going on. Here's some other stuff I've noticed:
* Cesium, which I planned on using as my main music player, also crashes upon opening
* Searching on Spotlight for the name of an artist that's in my music library will cause the phone to freeze and requires a hard reset
* Settings > General > iPhone Storage shows 81.1GB of 256GB used (sounds about right), but doesn't load any other information. There are two spinning wheels underneath that never materialize into anything else, and the text under the storage bar only says "Calculating category sizes..."
* Settings > About shows "Loading..." for Songs, Videos, and Photos, and makes Settings.app hang (becomes unresponsive, but does not send me back to the Home screen)
* Settings > Music also causes Settings.app to hang and eventually crash back to Home screen
* Telling Siri to "play a song" results in Siri loading a response for about 15 seconds, then telling me "Sorry [Capeto], I'm having trouble playing your music."
* Connecting my phone to my PC shows all storage (87.37GB) under "Other"... (crap!)
* Still in iTunes, navigating to my iPhone > On My Device > Music, all my songs appear there, but double clicking on any song to play it results in an exclamation mark inside a circle being displayed next to the song title (like when iTunes is unable to locate the original file)
* Crazy, crazy battery drainage like I saw on my 6S when I first updated to iOS 11, but hadn't seen on this 8+ (which I set up as new). 40%+ battery drained over the past 2 hours
So I guess my question is, is this normal? I understand I just added close to 10k files to the phone, but is indexing supposed to take this long? Wasn't the purpose of changing to APFS to mitigate some of these hurdles? How long can I expect to wait before being able to listen to the music that's already on the phone?
Also, if it matters, I'm pretty sure I hadn't opened Music.app yet because I use Spotify, so maybe it has to do with some Apple Music setup? Running 11.0.3 by the way.
