Public Beta. I thought I'd get involved in this and at first really enjoyed it. Especially on my iPad Air 2.

However just before the iPhone 6S, iPad Pro etc announcement, I unenrolled as I wanted to be able to get my hands on the public release and was worried that being part of the beta programme would stop this. Problem solved, right? Wrong.

Today, Monday 14th, I receive a notification on my phone as soon as I unlocked it saying "A new iOS update is now available. Please update from the iOS 9 beta. I go to settings and look at Software Update and there is iOS9.1 Beta 1. I don't want to download this as I actually want a final stable version of iOS 9 first. Especially as I've heard that 9.1 renders WhatsApp broken.

Now every time I unlock my phone, and I genuinely mean EVERY TIME, I get the notification come up and cannot do anything else on the phone until I dismiss it!

I've also noticed this is now stopping me from receiving notifications of messages etc on my Apple Watch!

  • How do I stop this from happening?
  • Now that iOS 9.1 is showing in Software Update on my phone does that mean I now won't get the final public release of iOS 9 on Wednesday??

Any help guys as this is really really making me regret signing up to the beta.

Also, if it helps, I didn't back up my phone before I install the 9 public beta. I don't have a computer in order to do this. Am I effed?

Have you removed the beta profile from your device? Not sure what you mean with ‘unenrolled’. If this doesn’t work, you might want to wait until 9.0 drops officially. Then you can just make a backup and restore your device.

WhatsApp works just fine for me, by the way. I haven’t encountered any issues with 9.1 so far.

I've removed the profile from my device by going to Settings>Profile and deleting the public beta profile. Ive checked Software Update and it is now saying my Software is up to date and with no options to update, which is good. However I still get the annoying pop up everytime I unlock my phone

I actually have the same issue. Profile deleted and since earlier this morning constant messages about an available iOS update.

Apple Support have suggested I wait until Wednesday when the public version of iOS 9 is released.

I'm having the same problem. Unenrolled from the beta program online, deleted the profile on my device, deleted the 9.1 beta that has already downloaded. And I, too, get the popup that an update is available every time I unlock my phone. Very annoying. Hoping I don't have any problems upgrading to the final release on Wednesday. Otherwise, I may just have to tolerate it until I get my 6S+.

That popup has been rumored to be a bad hard coded flaw in PB3, it's popped up even when there was no new update available...

So if I just go delete the Beta profile, on Wednesday when the official version comes out am i going to see it just pop up for me to download? Or am I gonna have to do some other roundabout way to get off the Beta track as well?

you should see the update (assuming you are not on 9.1 beta).

I was hoping this would be the case

It's almost tempting to just install the 9.1 beta to get rid of this popup knowing that I will be setting up my 6S+ as a new phone.

Same here but I want to actually have a bug free version to use. I can wait another 48 hours.

I cant backup to icloud at present, only itunes

You won't get a notification. You can restore through iTunes and get the released version that way.

Thanks for your reply, I dont have an 8.4 itunes backup. and my icloud backups aren't working (I hadnt used itunes for about five years when I went to 9.0 then 9.1)

So will I just connect to an up to date itunes at 12.00 noon EST and I'll be okay?

What is my best course of action please?

You'd need to restore potentially in recovery mode. You'd want to have a backup from before iOS 9 or at least from 9.0 (and not 9.1).

you need to install iOS 9.0 GM and get rid of your "beta" software that is installed on your phone

thanks again,

I do have a 9.0 backup on itunes (not before I'm embarassed to say) sync is working with www.icloud.com with ipad.

I guess I'll just have to 'wait and see what tomorrow brings' as the saying goes.

But I may get back to you with advise if thats okay?

Cheers

Okay, very frustrated with the beta program. So I have been on beta, currently on 9.1. I just got notification of 9.2 beta. I want to unenroll from beta. I've deleted the beta profile, rebooted, but the OS still wants me to upgrade to 9.2 beta. How do I remove the beta and just stay on the 9.1 released version?
