Hello.
I use Apple tech but my main phone is Galaxy. I am so excited about new S20 Ultra even though I have S10+. All my primary tech is Apple so I have iPod for music, Mac for work and iPad for entertainment however I use Galaxy phone as a daily driver and had used them since I got my first one. I had never made a change in all these years not even in the serie. Other Android phones are not my cup of coffe however all these years I am always more excited about the upcoming Galaxy S than the iPhone.
I like Galaxy phone regardless to it does not fit in the eco-system. Meanwhile I got iPhone so I have access to all my iCloud data & I like iPhone very much. I plan to buy the top model iPhone because it was the phone I always wanted since it was first introduced. I couldn't buy the iPhone as I was a kid back then, when I got my first job then it was too expensive so I afford my self a Galaxy. After time was passing I got to love Galaxy phone & I use it as my daily driver. It does not bother me it does not fit into the eco-system, it fits for me. I see how imperfect it but as time was flying I accepted that. Many people found it odd I use only Apple tech and accesories but I have almost every upcoming Galaxy. I got used to it so much I would dislike to use any other phone no matter I can't use it with other Apple tech. It does not bother me. I like the iPhone and I reccomend that phone because of the long updates & stability OS but I am on the another side about phone technology.

Is anyone else here on Macrumors Forum using Apple tech but having an Android phone?

Most of the people in the Alternative section use different products.

I have a iMac...MBP...iPad and iPhone. But I also have Android phones and Windows laptops.
I am not tied into the Apple ecosystem as it is too restrictive.
Looking to get a new Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 soon. I have been hearing good things about them.

I like having the ability to switch between the two depending on my mood. Both sides are great and each has particular strengths I like. At the moment I normally lean towards Android unless I get an iOS itch to scratch...

Galaxy Tab S6 + Galaxy S10e + Galaxy Buds:
  • Both Tab S6 and S10e are more compact and easier / more comfortable to handle than the iOS devices below without sacrificing screen size.
  • Galaxy Buds come in a variety of colors, including a more subtle black instead of bright white, and dont have stupid looking stems that stick out of your ears the way Airpods do.
  • Galaxy Buds can be in my ears all day without any discomfort.
  • Boost app for Reddit is MUCH better than any iOS versions (i.e. Apollo, Narwhal, Slide). This one is big for me since 90% of my work is downtime so I am frequently browsing Reddit when not reading a Kindle book or surfing online. Apollo is good but Boost is truly fantastic and sets the bar for Reddit browsers.
  • Have both face unlock AND fingerprint authentication options.
  • Galaxy Tab S6 has much smaller black bars for less distraction when watching video content than the iPad Pro 10.5.
  • Dark mode on Samsung Devices is a 100% true dark mode that applies not only system wide but also darkens websites too.
  • Samsung is much more generous with storage than Apple. S10e base model came with 128gb of storage and Tab S6 does as well. In addition to the better on-board storage, both devices have microSD card slots as well if needed.
  • Samsung is much more generous with cloud storage, giving you 15gb vs Apples paltry 5gb of iCloud storage.
  • Samsung devices have much better discounts than Apple products. When purchasing the S10e I was able to turn in a year old iPhone 8 Plus for $550 (!!!) trade-in credit. The Tab S6 I was able to purchase from Best Buy for $550, which also came with a $100 Best Buy gift card (basically as good as cash back for me).
  • I prefer the Tab S6 book cover to iPads smart cover. Both are great but the Tab S6 book cover has a much better angle for typing and protects both sides while holding it in place via strong magnets. iPads smart cover only protects the front side side and has a lower angle that isn't as good for typing while laying the tablet down.
  • Android gives you YouTube picture-in-picture mode for free, unlike on iOS where you need to pay $10/month for YouTube Premium to have access to this feature.
  • Samsungs OLED screens are much easier on my eyes at night time. I also prefer the color saturation of them when on vivid mode.
  • Samsung Pay via MST can be used almost everywhere, compared to Apple Pay via NFC which require merchants to upgrade their checkout kiosks and only available at maybe 60% of the places I frequent.
  • Can turn off WiFi / Bluetooth with one click from quick settings.
  • Galaxy S10e seems to have better cellular reception and call quality than than iPhone 7 Plus. Not sure if this due to Apples spat with not wanting to pay Qualcomm and using inferior Intel modems for the last few years.
  • Samsung feels like the more hungry company that is trying harder to earn my business, rather than Apple which to me currently feels like a greedy, overconfident company that either overprices its products or cuts corners / nickles-and-dimes its customers wherever it can.
  • Samsung stays out of the political game nonsense and simply sticks to business... instead of being a virtue signaling moron the way Tim Cook is.
iPhone 7 Plus + iPad Pro 10.5 + Airpods Pro + AppleTV
  • iMessage is amazing as all my friends / family have iPhones. The only messaging app on Android which I would trust atm is Signal but it can only be used on a phone and has attachment size limitations which I dont like.
  • Find my friends app is really nice so that I dont have to bug family members to know that they made it home safe. Android versions of this normally have time restrictions instead of always having it enabled and the ones that can have it always on I dont trust.
  • iPad Pro 10.5 & iPhone 7 Plus have wider screens which are nice when using them in landscape mode and render websites better.
  • Airpods Pro sound fantastic to me and I really like the active noise cancellation when I'm watching something in a noisy environment.
  • Airplay with Kindle immersion reading to my AppleTV is amazing.
  • I like having the ability to walk into the Apple Store and get same day service if any of my devices are having issues.
  • Airdrop is a really convenient way of sending videos to my family.
  • I only download a few apps for each system, but when I do I prefer the less permissions requested by the iOS versions.

This is true. There are great offers on Samsung phones. However they have noticeably lower resale and trade in value than an equivalent iPhone.

What's also great for the longevity of iPhones is the ability to get an OEM battery replacement at an iPhone store.

I previously had the battery of a samsung swapped at a phone repair shop but it was never as good as the original one.

I didn't expect that kind of answers. I thought everyone here uses only Apple products.
I also use PC as it has it's benefits like it has Paint. Yes lol for some of you, but Paint is an useful program and PC can run anything so I do some work on it.

Apple had made the ecosystem which forces user to buy their products. It is amazing how they have succeeded. I had to buy an iPhone after getting a Mac as I couldn't access my files on iCloud via Galaxy.
There is no iCloud Android app. I know about thermonuclear war on Android but that's past.
I needed the file, searched on iCloud on the Playstore, nothing, then I went to the website version and I couldn't access the files besides photos and notes. I needed an Excel document and had to go back home to turn on the Mac and send it to my self via mail as I need it to see it on my phone. Another anecdote was that Word on PC couldn't recognize the Pages document. I managed to buy the iPhone to this event so I screenshoted it and print the screenshot. If that wasn't Apple it would be a shame.

I mean:

1. no iCloud app on Playstore
2. Word on PC does not recognize Pages document o_O
3. Android phone can't access files on iCloud.com; can't see what files are in the folder

These things freak me out. I like tech and Apple is my favourite tech company but like can you imagine that you can't access on Onedrive because you don't use PC or not to have access to the Google drive as you need an Android for that. I mean if Microsoft and Google would done what Apple does these companies would be liquidated (rip).

I use Galaxy as I can use widgets on the same page with apps and to put apps in the middle bellow the widget & download audio files are in the music app. I have dual messengers and a safe folder. The design is better and I can get it for good money and after two years still sell it for good money which is not the case with other Android phones.

I like the iPhone though and it's very long support with updates and I am glad I bought one but not by the will but because I need an access to the iCloud files. How Apple makes money ?

I just now realized that you can’t access iCloud Drive from iCloud on Android... that’s crazy. However, I’m able to access on Safari with my iPad. Although, you might feel Apple forces you to buy their products... I think it helps them provide a better experience for you.

But as I recall... you can convert a Page document to Word in order to use it on PC. I’ve converted a Page document before... But mostly for PDF. And I’m kind in a similar boat with the Note10+... but I‘ll most likely rely on universal cloud drive... like Google Drive, OneDrive and Dropbox. It’s cool using iCloud Drive for iPad and iMac... especially with the Files app, but I would suggest using those 3.

To make some things smoother, I bought (leased more likely) Office 365 and use Word and Excel with OneDrive.

footnote: reason I bought Macintosh SE/30 31 years ago was to use Word 3.02 ($395) and Excel.

Exporting from Numbers to Excel then save a copy in Excel for editing.

Wtf - iCloud in MS Edge on S10+ only shows Photos and Notes. Reminders rolling out...

Yeah, I didn't really pay no attention to it until @Mihael brought it up. I'm hoping Apple brings iCloud Drive to Android eventually... some of are actually paying for iCloud Storage. Apple brought their Music app to Android... it makes sense for them to find a way to bring along iCloud Drive too.

I use:

- Samsung Galaxy S10e phone
- Samsung Galaxy Tab A
- MacBook Pro 13" (early 2013)
- iPhone SE (just for playing music at home now)
- Apple Photos
- Apple Music
- Spotify Music
- Google Photos
- SmugMug

I have been using Apple products since 1998 but for the numerous reasons mentioned by many people in various forums on this site, I am now departing Tim Cook's leaking ship. Lots of good options out there to replace Apple hardware and services.
