The writer's guild strike has the potential to really damage the existing business model in Hollywood. I mean, it is throwing a lot of people out of work basically because the studios want their writers to be slave labor while the studio execs take home tens of millions in salaries.

I vote for Steve Jobs to come in and mediate this strike. Steve knows the value of good design. Besides being knighted, Jonathan Ives is paid for the great work he has done. Steve knows the problems of the internet and downloading, he understands good stories (Pixar anyone?) and he knows how to push for excellence. I'm not kidding. I really think Jobs is about the only one he has really thought through a lot of the issues facing the movie studios today ... internet downloads/dvd counterfeiting, etc., and I think he would be perfect to mediate.

I hope he does so soon. I also think the studios should just sign up their content on iTunes until they can figure out something better. (Which they won't.) But the writers should think about Jobs as understanding their position a lot better than one would think at first glance. Ives is the equivalent of a great scribe and Jobs might be a good way to mediate this Civil War in the tv and film biz before the biz becomes a scorched earth Gettysberg.

I'm not sure.. it seems like a bad business move and I'm also not sure the he is what they need.. they need a mediator... and one without potential vested interests.

The writers will be back, with a new deal that is:

A) Basically the same as the old deal
AND
B) Has some minor changes in it that they can trumpet as a "victory" for the "movement"
