I want to buy a Mac... it'll be my first one ever. i wanted to know what would be a nice starting kinda thing... i was mainly looking for cheap, but decent. any suggestions?

Good stuff, (nearly) welcome to Macs. :)

A few questions, do you want a desktop or a laptop. I started my Mac affairs with an iBook G4, which was perfect for me at the time. Do you want new or used? Will this be your primary computer? :)

Go for the lastest model eMac. They are not sold in the stores any longer but I believe they are still sold for educational institutions so you can prolly get one from somewhere. Or maybe an excellent condition used eMac from ebay, look for the 1.42GHz model and look for one with extra RAM maybe with 768Mb.

Obviously, if you're interested in buying one that runs windows as well, you'll have to get a relatively new intel one, in which case probably the only choice as a first, cheap mac is the intel mini, maybe you can get a refurb one at the Apple Store Online.

How's this seem for a Mac Mini:

Mac mini 1.66GHz Intel Core Duo
Part Number: Z0D1
Intel GMA950 with 64MB shared memory
Accessory kit
Mac OS X - U.S. English
1GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x512
SuperDrive 8x (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
100GB Serial ATA drive

Estimated Total: $1,005.94

eh?

The Mac Mini would be a very fast Mac, and i doubt you would be using an PPC only Apps(so your Apple will use the intel chips speed very well, but have your condsider a used Mac?

You could look at the MR market place or Apple refub, since you will not be using an high powered apps, a iMac G5 might be good for you. But the intel is nice, but G5 are very cheap now

What you should do is get a MacBook or Macbook Pro. You will have a laptop, and the BEAUTY of it is, you can connect a display to your MacBook or MacBookPro, close the lid, connect a keyboard & mouse (cable or bluetooth) and have a "desktop" set up as well.

very nice. I would recommend the new MacBook. Just spend a little more ( upgrade Harddrive & Ram ) , it will last you a VERY long time.

For another 95 dollars you can get a refurbished iMac (new intel version) ...
If you spend another 295 you get a new iMac.....

17inch monitor(which basically makes price differnence), better video card, faster processor, bigger hard drive, mouse and keyboard
