I used entourge(the calander part) before iCal came out and I liked how you didnt have to have it running to get messages about events that are coming up, iCal doesnt seem to be working like this for me is there a way to get it to work like that I really dont want to switch back:(

as much as we'd all like to support apple. I gotta say.............iCal sucks majorely.

I'd stick to what works better. You'll thank me later

It's been hit or miss, for me. Even when the email reminder works I often have a problem with my Keychain asking me to verify the pw for my account (keeping the email from going through if I'm not home).

that's really crazy, alset.

iCal has worked perfectly for me, and i really enjoy using it...but there is that part where don't really use it that much...just for exam reminders and random events i need to attend

mnkeybsness, reminders are great for me I go to school and put all of my homework, tests, etc... It helps alot I go on my computer daily but I tend to forget to look on my sylibos (sp) everyday to check and see if I have anything due:)

Just leave it running all the time and close the main window when you're not using it.

i'd like to support iCal too, but it would need a feature set that's impossible: It would need to interface somehow with Lotus at work, and sync with a T720 phone.

It's actually kind of sad that Lotus from like 1998 has an easier calendar function to use than iCal. For instance, why isn't it fully integrated with Mail? So you could send and receive calendar events... makes sense, it's a feature a lot of people use.

I'm sure ical will be usable in a couple of major revisions. until then...

It's a waste of system resources to do that.

The point of all this is that Apple says "here use this..." and we end up with beta quality software until they can get it sorted out. Problem is, most of the time they don't claim it to be a beta.

open keychain and select your outgoing mail password item. next click the Access Control tab and select Always allow access to this item. that will prevent that dialog from poping up. also, my reminders of events always pop up on screen even when i dont have ical open. i wonder why the originator of this post is having problems with this.

if you want to schedual reminders, double click on the event and click on the icon that looks like an alarm....there you can configure pop up reminders that go off even if ical isnt launched. i use pop up reminders AND email reminders without ical being open.

I had the same problem where the iCal alerts were not coming up... you have to get rid of Entourage in its entirety in order to overcome this... I wouldn't do it tho'...

My major problem with iCal is that it can only alert you once... there is NO snooze function like in Entourage. As much as I hate to admit it, Microsoft's is the better product... at least for now.

ooooo iCal uses a whopping 1.10% of my system memory when running... Such a waste. If you have a problem with running such a small app, GET MORE MEMORY!

BTW, I have had iCal remind me of things, when it wasn't running. I get a pop-up window reminder, since I don't have it email me. You can set it all up when you set up the item in iCal as to how you want it to remind you of the even.

Another thing you can do, is sync with either your iPod or compatible PDA so that the alert also shows there. Makes it even less of a problem. :p
