I want a Macbook (pro) mini

I have seen some really tiny laptops lately and i would like an Apple one, but I would also like a pro spec.

12" widescreen (1440x900 if possible if not 1280x800 or 1366x768)
2.4ghz Core 2 Duo or more
1gb or 2gb ram (max 4gb)
biggest fastest hard drive that will fit.
decent graphics, better than Macbook
 
If the new MacBooks come out slightly thinner and lighter than the current models and with full SR upgrade, I don't see Apple producing a MBP version. If they do it will be an ultra portable so forget any CPU even near 2GHz and either a tiny HD or SSD and no optical drive.

This is the most realistic. If it's going to be a true "ultra" portable, it will have Flash and no optical drive (too much energy consumption), and the processor will likely max out at 1.6.

If the macbooks lose at least 1lb of weight, and about 1 inch in width, then I think they would make perfectly fine portables, but I'm not sure whether or not this will happen.
 
The good ultraportables are 11" WXGA, dual-core 1.66 Ghz, with 120GB hard disk, DVD+-RW DL, bluetooth and gigabit ethernet.
 
With internal Super Multi drive (includes DVD-RAM).

Asus S6F. (Depending on battery, 3-cell: 1.37 Kg, 6-cell: 1.53 Kg, 9-cell: ?)

The S6Fm is 1.33 GHz, but Core 2. The Bluetooth is 2.0 and it has 802.11n

I'd love it. They had the 12'' PB, why not a 12'' MBP?

Your wishlist is quite physically contradictory there! If you want 7 hours of battery life from a 12" screen with a 1.8 GHZ CPU, you're going to be disappointed! I think a 1.6 with no optical drive is probably more likely.

My iBook used to get 5.5 hours. The G4 wasn't really power efficient at all.

That Core 2 Duo LV L7700 only uses 0.9 volts. And the Superdrive doesn't use power when you're not using it.

You would be able to stretch it to 7 hours with the backlight all the way down, wireless off if you had the integrated graphics and solid state drive. The MBP is supposed to get 6 hours.

The G4 chip may not have been terrible efficient, but it also didn't use as much power while idle as the new Intel chips seem to-the heat output is one indicator of this. Efficiency doesn't always correlate to lower overall power consumption.;)
The Superdrive takes up power every time you wake from sleep and power on. In addition, it takes up valuable space that could go towards a larger battery;)

The SR chips are very good for their power:performance ratio, but a 1.8 is still going to need a great deal of power. A 12" notebook would be quite physically constrained in terms of battery capacity. Your iBook was not widescreen, whereas a new 12" mbp would be, which means that it would be slightly smaller in surface area.

Lastly, if you're talking about stretching it to 7 hours with all other things at minimal levels, then it's possible. However, as we both know, the macbooks and macbook pros do not come close to their advertised results, even with wireless & BT off, with the screen dimmed all the way, and only minor programs running in the background.

You could go without the superdrive but then you would have to use an external, which I'd find annoying. Batteries are getting more dense and hold more charge, so you don't need to have one that's physically as big.

Also, the Low Voltage C2D I'm talking about has a rating of 17W TDP, while the regular core 2s in the Macbook and Macbook Pros have a rating of 35W TDP.

That's true, but don't expect miracles. I think that if we saw one by January, the battery life for a 12" w/out a drive would be 4.5 hours in real life use (this assumes internet usage and a side program like Word, Excel, etc).

Those ULV C2Ds are great. I can lower my C2D in my MB to 0.975 volts and still run full throttle at 2GHz. I bet they could get the ULVs down to sub 0.9V if they wanted to.
 
Updates

I am waiting for that 13.3 MBP. If it comes it will be with the Pynryn or with the one after, when the die cast shrinks. after all the smaller the processor the less room on the motherboard and so on...

Also Apple won't be like PC ever because Steve Jobs is a minimalist. That and his products have class.

PC makers build inexpensive computers because they have all that competition.

Apple, is a unique computer. no one else has MAC OS X. Everyone else for the most part uses Windows.

Steve Jobs doesn't produce crap. if you pay attention, everytime he releases a NEW product such as the IPHONE, the Ipod, the macbook when it came out in 2006 the macbook pro, Leopard. when Apple comes out with a new product it some how redefines the catagory.

I think it will be the same for, when Apple comes out with the Macbook Mini.
 
I feel you guys are being too picky about battery life. Really, the amount of time during the day you wouldn't be near a place to charge it (out of work/meetings etc) probably for the average user not extend much past 3 hours total anyway. I'd be perfectly happy with a 12inch "ish" widescreen portable with pro specs. Just the thinner/lighter casing of the pro would help a lot in size, drop the screen an inch from the macbooks.. it would be possible for a 3 hour battery life.

I'd gladly get a new macbook if they were aluminum form factor... but dedicated graphics are a need for me. If they could somehow get pro specs (2.0 like was mentioned above would be AOK by me though) and dedicated graphics and a superdrive in a nice 12inch widescreen case that would be BEEEEEAAAUUUTTTIFUL. I'd swap my 15inch immediately.:D
 
i just want the speed of my 17" MBP in a 12" form.

At first i went for a 17" because it was to replace a Powermac which somtimes needed to be portable.

I am now using it portable all the time and it is just too big. I want a 12" which i can hook upto a bigger display when at home but i do a lot of photoshop work so need the power!
