Ok, so I know its a little ways off... but how far do you think? Next summer? Quad-core chips are plentiful... and becoming more and more power-efficient. I know Apple has standards for how long they want the battery to last in their laptops, so how long until we see quads in MBPs? Any other technical considerations you can think of?

Year or two. There are quad core desktop chips, but no quad core laptop chips (and none on the immediate roadmap)

Bit overkill IMO plus lack of support.

Is there ANY laptop on the market with a quad in it?

People thought the same of dual-cores a few years back. Besides, progression is inevitable. Programs are going to do more, and require more power... but people are still going to want mobility. Its only a matter of time before we have quad laptops... I was just curious as to when everyone thought Apple would start using quads... after all, thats the only laptop im going to buy!

And dual-cores are still not being used to their full potential but yet we are so quick to want more and more.

So with a quick glance I take the answer is "No"

Not at the moment... but there will be. Keep in mind, the laptop market has grown largely in the past couple of years. And so the competition between manufacturers - Apple, Dell, HP, etc - is going to spur on more and more power and features. In the immediate future, the only "mobile quads" may be in a desktop replacement class, but as battery technology and processor technology improves... we will see it in a standard laptop configuration.

Agreed. But are you really going to complain when Apple announces that the MBP line is getting an upgrade to quad-cores?? I hardly think so... ;)

I will if it only has an hour battery life. I honestly would be VERY upset. I need the battery life and not in any need of a quad-core as of right now.

There is very little software that takes advantage of having 2 cores at the moment - having 4 cores wouldn't provide that much benefit.

I hope everyone's wishes have been taken care of.
