I want an iPhone but....

So ever since the iPhone came out I have wanted one and now that the price has dropped I can afford one. The problem is I was talking to a Cingular tech and they told me all of these things that I did not know and I was wondering if they were true.

1. They said that the battery has to be replaced after one year and you have to send your phone off to do this.

2. They said that there are a lot of hidden fees.

I'm a college student and can only afford so much. Does anyone know if these things are true?

well since the iPhone has not been out a year, no one has a clear cut idea about that battery thing and 1 year, but.....I HIGHLY doubt that's anywhere near the truth.

I don't have any sort of hidden fee's that I wouldn't normally expect from ATT since I activated my iPhone 2 months ago. In fact, the 39.99 + 19.99 + taxes and fee's is exactly what I expected to be paying. Comes out to around 66 a month. The phone is everything that I wanted in the iPhone.

Get one if you can really afford it, and it doesn't stretch your budget to much. Don't get one though if you want one just to be cool, or have the high tech stuff, wait until after you graduate to start buying toys. Live well within your budget and enjoy the hell out of your college years. You'll never experience them again.

Sadly that Rep did not know what they were taking about, or they were having a bad day.

After a year of use the battery starts lossing it's ability to hold a full charge. After a year the battery will only be able to hold a 99% charge. A far cry from replacement.

There are always hidden fees with phones. My iPhone bill is $68 a month. $60 for the plan and $8 for taxes and such.

IMO the hidden fees come from Apple. Having to buy iLife and .mac to use We Gallery and having to pay an extra $0.99 to get a custom ringtone through Apple.

No simply not true, this depends on your usage of the phone, how many times you recharge it. 1 year is too soon, I'm thinking 2-3.

Well that depends...all cell phone companies have hidden fees, personally I think iPhone keeps you away from the killer, data usage. If you get an iPhone, you can't worry about how much data you've used, because all the plans are unlimited plans(for data)


Going out of the country can be a problem, but it can also be one with other phones.
