Update:Thanks Everyone! Yes got very Confused. I appreciate your time & responses :) When Ios12 update finished I got the DND splash screen notification about no ring when locked, then it quickly disappeared and I had to go thru setup screens. Had me feelin’ like it was some kind of new default, went to DND settings and there was only no ring on lock or always no ring....
So Apperently I Had DND turned on and wasn’t aware :/ palm to face...
Thanks again ☮️

Ios12 “Do not disturb” has no option to let the phone ring incoming calls if it’s locked!
I got a phone to receive calls and make them. So if understand correctly: If my phone is locked I will not hear any audible indicators that someone wishes to speak with me and I will miss the call if it’s not on my person?
If I’d like to hear my phone ring, indicating that I have an incoming call I must keep it unlocked? This makes no sense, having to visually check for all the missed calls because it’s locked or keeping it unlocked lacks any security. Is there a work around? Do I understand this “Feature” correctly??

If I remember right if that same number calls twice in a row the second call will go through. Otherwise your phone will not ring or do notifications if on DND. That is the whole point of this. No point to set it to DND if you are constantly checking phone.

The whole point of DND is to keep the phone quiet. Why would you enable DND if you need to have notifications (Audio/Visual) enabled? Makes no sense to me..

If you have DND enabled with "Silence while iPhone is locked" and your phone is locked then no, you will not hear incoming calls.

Instead of keeping it unlocked, simply don´t enable DND...Problem solved.

To me, it feels like you might have misunderstood what Do not disturb is intended for.

With Do Not Disturb, you can silence calls, alerts, and notifications that you get while your device is locked. You can also schedule Do Not Disturb and allow calls from certain people.

Turn off "Do Not Disturb" if the setting disturbs you.

I also want my phone to ring on DND. In 11.4.1 I set the phone in DND at bedtime, but allow calls "from everyone" to come through as one of the DND sub-settings.

I am an emergency after hours contact with specific instructions that I be called, and I need calls to come through. But I don't want emails, texts, other alerts to disturb me while on DND. 11.4.1 allows this set up. If IOS 12 does not, that's a problem for me....

@tim4hire

Reading through your post a few more times I’m left confused with the questions and wondering if it is me who’s misunderstanding your questions.

Have you tried the settings seen in these screenshots?

Nothing has changed in iOS 12 with regards to this. OP is just very confused. He probably switched DND on by mistake and now it’s more obvious when DND is on because you get a panel on the lock screen tellingly you it’s on.
