i want to get a job at an apple retail store. help please? *update*

So, i have no work experience whatsoever unless you count many hours volunteer work and community service. i am an all-honors student going to college this fall. To an extent, I know basic computer hardware components and their functions and I can usually diagnose software problems myself (mostly in windows).

so that's a curt overview of my situation. and i really like apple products.

i'm not asking for anything demanding... just maybe a concierge position (or is the proper name a "Specialist"?) not anything like a genius or supply manager.

what should i include in my resume?

what were your experiences if you ever had tried applying or worked there? Any tips?

i am worried that the position that i'm hoping to reach for has much competition however...

All positions at Apple have a great deal of interest. Since you lack work experience you need to showcase your volunteer work. It's been my experience that Apple is not so much concerned with how much you know about computers but how well you can sell their ****. Are you likable? If so that's one step in the right direction.

i would like to think i am, but i leave that to other people's opinions. so the right way to showcase my volunteer work is to emphasize my social conditions within the volunteer work?

It is competitive. Being out-going and having a warm personality -- two things they can't teach -- gives you a huge advantage over people who may be more technical than you, but lack those two traits.

Apple Retail prides itself on doing things differently, so having no formal work experience is not necessarily a negative. Have you read the job description for Specialist?

Also, if you didn't already know, you submit your resume online (use the search box for "careers"). It's never bad to follow-up in person at the store, but it looks good for you to say "I already did" when they tell you to submit it online.

My experience in Apple Retail stores have all been enjoyable. I've never dealt with an unpleasant Concierge or MacGenius. You're not getting hired if you're just some kid who wants a job to get paid, they hire people who want to work at the Apple Retail Store, not just just for money but for enjoyment of working there.
I'm sure you'll do fine if you're truly enthusiastic about it. Good Luck

climbing the ladder

I was looking to apply for a position at an Apple retail store as well as a specialist. I feel that I am qualified and know a lot about Apple and their products and read up on them regularly. I feel I am a likable person and what not and could fulfill these requirements to work there. Does anyone know how possible it is to "climb the ladder" and potentially become a manager and or an Apple salesman possibly in the B2B field etc.? All replies would be helpful as I am going to the store tomorrow AM. Thanks.

They recently removed the Concierge role and merged the existing staff with Specialists, which is better imo. With the specialist role in mind they're looking for personality rather than knowledge. They can teach you about macs (I know specialists who had never tried a mac prior to being recruited, but now their knowledge is great).

My CV has been on apple.com for a few years. I recently changed it (like, last month) to make it alot more compact, to the point, etc and I received an invite to some interviews, so I guess my number one piece of advice is to avoid rambling. My CV layout is simply a few bullet points at the top for my profile, then experience, grades and references. Not the best CV but it worked for me.

It is very competitive, so you need to be confident and strong, and most importantly yourself. Just remember its more about people skills than technical knowledge. Also, when you get an invite from Apple, refer to the Apple Recruitment Seminar thread in this forum as there is some great advice there.
