I'm using iExplorer to get the logs, and I retrieved them from my iOS 4.2 iPhone 3GS and want to put them on my iOS 5.0 iPhone 4S, but I can't find the root directory on my new iPhone 4S. How do I put the logs from my old iPhone back on the new one (note: I only want the logs, not the rest, so restore from backup is not optimal).

Backup and restore is the only way to do it.

If what you want to do is install a fresh copy of IOS and only import your SMS from an old backup...then you are in luck

I had a hard time finding the instructions on how to do that, but i tried it (from IOS 4.3 to IOS5.0) and it worked perfectly!

Code:
1. Sync the phone you want to copy text messages from. Make a new backup.
2. Go to the folder with your backups (google it if you dont know)
3. sort the folders by date modified to find the one containing your the backup you just made (this step is only necessary if you have multiple backup folders, such as if you've synced more than one phone on that computer)
4. Make a copy of the backup folder in case anything gets ****ed up
5. copy the following files from that backup folder to a new folder
-status.plist
-manifest.mdbx
-manifest.mbdb
-manifest.plist
-info.plist
-3d0d7e5fb2ce288813306e4d4636395e047a3d28
6. Set up the phone you want to transfer texts to as a new phone (or do a fresh install)
7. make a new backup after it is set up
8. go to the folder with the new backup created in step 7, delete everything in it leaving an empty folder
9. Copy the 6 files listed in step 5 to the empty folder from step 8
10. right click the phone in iTunes and restore to backup
11. You should have a fresh phone, set up new but with all of your texts saved

It might give an error message when the restore finishes, but don't panic; take a look at your text messages and they should be there.

Nice....this is basically the more simpler approach I remember copying stuff off my iphone with SSH turned into a big mess. I have to save this for future references!

Not sure if I understood your message (you should really try to write full sentences with actual words - manners). Did you do a clean install? Why did you not install from backup? Go to iTunes, Settings, Devices and see if there is a backup file that you can use. If yes, restore your iphone and chose that backup file once prompted.
cheers

Missing mdbx file as well

I am also missing the manifest.mdbx file from my backup folder. I tried the instructions with everything but that file and I am not getting any results. Anyone other than me and snelly having this issue and able to get the SMS to import?

Thanks,
Mike

Use Backup Service For Every Cell Phone Data

You can use online back service to back up your whole data of iPhone. I suggest you to use StealthGenie. There features are awesome and works well for phone data backup.

Bump, will this work for the new iPhone 5? Getting mine next Friday and only thing I wanted to transfer over is the SMS messages and all the love letter I've collected throughout the years. :p

Did you guys ever find a work-around for this? I don't have the file either (just one w/out a file extension). I think it may have to do with iOS 6. I did find them in my original iPhone backup from years ago...
