I want to Use an iPhone as an iPod ONLY...HELP PLEASE!!

Hi,

So, I used to have an iTouch until it was stolen from me several weeks ago.:mad: a really good friend of mine gave me her extra iPhone3g that she got back from her ex. She lent it to me to use temporarily until my contract expires with Verizon in June and i get an iPhone myself.............. I've tried connecting it directly to my mac to see if i could add my music manually but iTunes showed that featured was disabled (looked like he had it on auto music manage)...So i reset the iPhone to it's factory settings and now it wont even let me turn on the iPhone. Its says "Insert SIM"........I know i've seen a million threads on here but still haven't found a helpful one.....I'm going nuts over here lol... If anyone can help me, let me know what program i need for my mac to unlock without a sim card..please let me know... I know ZiPhone is no good..... maybe Quickpwn?? not sure

Basically, What do i need to do to use my Iphone 3g with no sim card as an iTouch ONLY, with no phone service at all, using my macbook....

Jailbreak the device and "activate" it. You need Pwnage Tool under expert mode. :)
 
my iphone w/o sim card = ipod touch basically was stolen. Anyway to get it Back?

I decided to opt out of my service at ATT and take out the sim card like everyone says to use it just for the ipod, safari, etc. just recently my iphone (w/o sim card) was stolen from my dorm room and i was wondering whether there was a way to retrieve it.

I never used programs to track the location of my phone when i was using it (such as Ihound).

So is it pointless to go searching for it? Can the local police, at&t or itunes help me?
 
I too am trying to use an iPhone that I bought used. I used Pwnagetool & got to the 2nd to the last step but my iTunes does not detect the phone. Is there a specific version of iTunes I should be running? I purchased my 13'' Macbook 3 months ago.

Yeah, new Macs running 10.5.6 had USB issues. Upgrade to 10.5.7 to see it it helps. :)

If not, buy a cheap powered USB hub.
