I have to admit that I love my Android phones (but before that I was a die hard Apple girl), Samsung makes great hardware touchwiz aside for those that hate it. So when Apple finally announced the 5.5" phone (I have been leaning 99% towards the new Note 4) I thought hmmm maybe.... just maybe!

Long story made shorter, I went into a store to have a look and yes the hardware is beautiful no doubt about that, but I looked at those rows of icons, swiped them to the left and right, looked at the new notification menu how they have it hidden on a button to the top right of the 6+ and went "Blah".

Basically for me there was nothing NEW to see for apple. Nothing that said wow this is really new and neat. Nothing that I wasn't already doing with my S4 or better. I even liked the screen on the Note 3 better when i walked over to look at it. So wierd for me.

I think what also threw me off was the 1GB ram. I know the phone works fast NOW but remember what happened with the first gen iPad. Apple never disallowed the iOS7 for it and it broke many people's iPads because the device didn't have enough ram to cover the new OS and it's apps. I really feel that if Apple had bumped their Ram to 2GB at the very least it would have insured at least 4 years of OS updates on the device.

Unless devs get super sly with ram requirements for their apps, this will likely make the phone redundant in 2 years..... I don't want to spend that kind of money on that kind of risk.

So, Note 4 for me!

Those on apple this is a great change and update but for those who are on the note the improvements are what have been on the note for years. the features apple have added are 2013 specs really same goes for the screen quailty but I can't really say for sure about that until I see it in person. I'm looking forward to checking it out on stores but I can say the note 3 screen is the same than whats on the new iphone

So really those who love the android ways, widgets, features there are hardly any reasons to go for the iphone over the note unless you just love IOS so much better.

all just my opinion though.

its interesting that so many people failed to grasp the specs situation.

what if i told you that a7 is 50% faster than snapdragon 801? although, a7 really is year 2013, which year would 801 be? 2011?

the same thing is with the camera and display. everybody is talking about the resolution, yet im willing to bet (anandtech review pending) iphone has both a better quality screen and camera than note 4.

I'm sure apple fans will try to twist the specs to make them in apples favour as they normally try and do. I've even seen people say the iPhone 6 display is barely on par with the note 3 display nevermind the note 4 display.

I have to see the iPhone in person to compare the display and camera.

The iphone 6/6+ only has an 8 mega pixel camera and whilst mega pixels are not the only determinant in image quality, it does make a difference in the level of detail you get from your shots. So yes the iphone 6/6+ camera may be easier to use and take better low light shots, but they will lack the detail that I can get from shots taken with my S5 and soon to be note 4.

I don't know about Note 4 but the Note 3 screen is the best i had on a phone, no ambled screen on the new iPhones so i doubt they can come close to it and even less to the Note 4 screen.

I have a long wait to do for my iPhone 6 plus and if i get the chance to play with a Note 4 i don't know what will happened lol

Totally agree with you except that I'm probably gonna wait for note 5 (hoping 64bit). My s4 is running super fast and I have a second battery with extra charger. No need to upgrade yet even though I want it so badly!

Regarding specs:

My point was not which processor runs faster by any means, my concern is the minuscule amount of RAM in a phone that costs almost 1000.00 to buy outright. I would NOT want to buy that phone only to find out only 2 years or 3 down the road that the apps, camera, video and the now permitted third party applications (which I believe do put a bit more strain on RAM than without the third party apps) might have the ipad 1st gen issue (512mb) not being able to handle the iOS updates that were provided later or the demand by the apps. If they had included even 2GB RAM I would feel more confident in purchasing it.

If I am wrong in this train of thought please educate me, I am always willing to learn.

That was my thinking as well, and what turned me off from the 6+. I decided on the 6 for now (it has the cuter cases anyway :)), but I am excited to see what tech 2015 brings.

Some people just can't get over the numbers. They just see quad core vs. dual core, 16 megapixel vs. 8, 2k vs. 1080, and just assume the higher number is better and disregard actual performance.

I think we enthusiasts except more at Apple then what they're delivering and that leads to disappointment when they don't wow us. We are out of the SJ era so i think gone are the really wow days. They still make good junk it's just pehaps not as good as we wish it to be.

To all the disbelievers, go try one of the ones on the floor. Major lag fest, I'm thinking due to the lack of RAM. Not surprised that Apple is stuck in the past. Also, highly disappointed with the display quality. Way overhyped. Why are they still using "Retina" displays when anyone with good vision can clearly see pixels?

I think it's safe to say the 6 and 6 Plus was all hype.

You can see pixels on a 401PPI display? I salute you....

And major lagfest really? I really don't believe you at all.

So Apple has convinced you that 1gb ram is better than 2gb. OK. I just believe in numbers sorry.

And numbers aren't off. They are better for a reason.

If this was the other way around there would be no possible way the numbers would be misleading.

Take 11 minutes to watch this video. Note 4 will have 3.68 megapixel front camera btw, sure to be improved over the S5.

Correction, I believe the original iPad only had 256MB RAM and was not upgraded beyond iOS 5. That said, I do wish Apple would put more than the bare minimum amount of RAM in their devices. Sure, 1GB is sufficient for smooth operation but it's pretty inadequate for multi-tasking and relatively heavy multi-tabbed web browsing.

I think the issue with the front facing camera may be the silly beauty mode that samsung had put in? Doesn't seem to be a way to deactivate this and it makes everything a lot softer.

Both cameras seem decent in the comparison but it's really obvious that the S5 audio was much better. Probably a combination of stereo and higher quality microphones.

I haven't pre ordered because I am not sure where I am going to buy it. But the colour that I would like is the gold. It really looks nice on my tab S4. I am unlikely to get a subsidy and be able to retain my legacy plan but when it gets closer I will call loyalty retentions and see what I can scrounge up! Nice video, should be nice to see the current devices compared (ip6/+ and SGN4)
