I ordered an iPad.

I was in the Apple store yesterday for a router issue and I have been on the fence about the iPad. Specifically holding out for the front facing camera that will likely be in rev 2.

However, after seeing facetime on the iphone 4, the camera in the iPad did not seem like such a big deal (because the phone implemented it so well I saw no need for the ipad camera).

Anyway, the missus and I were in the apple store and (just for $4!ts and giggles) I asked about the availibility of the 64gig WiFi model, and they were out. A nod from the wife later and I was put on the wait list and was told that usually it takes less than a week to fulfill an order.

I know not as exciting a story as leaving with an iPad, but the decision to purchase was a very long time in the making. On the plus side, I did leave the store with a new Extreme Base Station and an Apple iPad case :D.

Well that is my story, thanks for reading and my next post will hopefully be from my iPad.

Have a week! (2 cool point to anybody who can name that reference)!

You won't regret your decision (apart from putting in a bit of overtime, perhaps, to pay for it...). Some folk are complaining that it's not as powerful as an iMac, or Macbook, etc... but, hell, that's not the point. What the iPad does, it does very well. And using it is just a delight. You'll enjoy it, I'm sure... :)

The ipad is amazing and you wont regret your decision. It is the favorite device in my house, and I have several apple laptops.

BTW, I hope that you got the Apple branded case. It really does add so much functionality to the Ipad. Only problem is that they have been quite scarce.

Keep us updated with your initial impressions when you finally get your Ipad.

I did indeed get the apple baranded case. I think that primarily I will be using the iPad as an e-reader (lots of comic books), and movies (400+ for the :apple:TV already) for my 2 hours of daily public transportation commuting.

Regarding the not as powerful as iMac or laptop. I think that folks that say that, aren't looking for an iPad in the first place. I see this as something to compliment my iMac not replace. However I do see it freeing up the MacBook a bit for my wife (she will be happy with that). :)

Too funny. Same stuff just in a different sequence. First came the Apple case, then the iPad and 2 days later the Airport Extreme (darn FIOS).

I also ordered from the Columbia store. It took 2 weeks. I'm still on the wait list at Towson and it's been over 2 weeks. I know of someone who was only on the wait list at the Annapolis store for 2 days. Oh well, I'm sure you will enjoy it when it arrives.

Thats great! :D

You'll enjoy it :) Obviously it's not as powerful as iMacs or Macbooks. or infact any computer, cause its not meant to be a computer! 256MB RAM might not sound alot, but it uses what its got very well!

Get stocked up on iPad apps :)

Enjoy ur iPad :)

This is a cool story! I'm also holding out, not necessarily for rev 2, but for October when I start grad school and move to Europe. The only reason I'm not getting one right now is that I'm saving as much as I can. I'll indulge later in the year.

I just could not hold out....

Had mine since day 1 and I love it, as does my wife and my two year old son.

It is by far the most amazing piece of tech I have ever used, and for all those that say it is not a computer I disagree. If you set it up correctly as in have air video, air sharing and work suite apps, it actually becomes a fully functional extension to your existing computer. I consider mine to be an extension to my iMac, and that gives me the ability to do all my writing work and school planning on the go. (teacher not student)

Took me a little while to decide to take the plunge. Kept asking myself if I really needed it and what all I would do with it, but now that I have it I don't regret it for one second. Once you use it for a while you really realize the potential of the device...

I am enjoying mine immensely. I watch all of my John Lennon videos and listen to all of my John Lennon albums on it...:)

Glad to have a fellow Beatle Fan onboard!

How was this a very long decision/process when the device is only a few months old?

The iPad was announced just under six months ago (1/27/2010), and was pseudo-public knowledge for a while before that.

While I will concede that the term "long" is subjective and very long may have been a bit of a hyperbole, I think that one woud be hard pressed to consider that a short period of time, especially for deciding on something as trivial as a frivolous :apple: purchase.

A quick update on my ipad experience so far:

Pros: As I alluded to earlier, my comic books look far better than I hoped.
Web surfing is quite nice
Screen is very sharp
Apple case keeps is somewhat discrete
comfortable in the hands

Cons: FINGERPRINTS!!!!

All in all, I am very happy with my (moderately timed) decision.
