Why I will keep my iPad Pro 10.5" for 1 year?
  • it has 512GB Storage
  • iPad Pro 2018 is more expensive and it is rear camera downgraded
  • I am go to pick up iPad Pro 2019 next year.
  • I don't need iPad with 1TB Storage until next year.
Why iPad Pro 2019?
  • iPad Pro 2019 will support for Time of Flight
  • Maybe better USB-C
  • 128GB, 512GB, or 1TB options
  • Should be staying US$799 for iPad Pro 11" and US$999 for iPad Pro 12.9"
  • Should be OLED instead of LCD
 
I do not think the 2019 iPad Pro will go OLED. It won't be economical and Apple's LCDs on the iPad Pros are so beautiful that they rival or exceed OLED screens.
 
I somehow assumed I would have bought a new 2018 iPad Pro by now. But my 10.5 is looking pretty good. Works great. Love my overpriced Apple pencil-holding leather sleeve that I sometimes I use in place of the ASK (which itself in now fully functioning after I got a brand-new, half-price out-of-warranty replacement). Somehow I don't see the point of replacing unless I can convince myself that I need the 12.9 -- which would be nice for some of my use but less handy for other aspects. So I may end up sitting this one out. Improved pencil functionality would probably be the main thing I'd miss by not replacing.
 
We’re talking more like 2020 for the new iPads, but good for you for not giving in. Aside from oled (which I don’t think iPad is giving) I don’t even know what apple could add to it. Most of the interesting stuff that matters would be software. Come on apple! Make iOS 13 awesome!

iPad Pros are in an at least 1.5 year cycle now. You've got to wait much longer for the next generation. And it just had an significant upgrade. I don't think you'll see anything dramatic for the next one. At least not in 2019.

What do you need a 2018 iPad Pro for that your 2017 10.5 iPad Pro cannot do?

Why iPad Pro 2019?
  • iPad Pro 2019 will support for Time of Flight - No idea what that is.

  • 128GB, 512GB, or 1TB options - Probably 128/256/512/1T but irrelevant for you if you want 256 or more.
  • Should be staying US$799 for iPad Pro 11" and US$999 for iPad Pro 12.9" - Unlikely. But possible.
  • Should be OLED instead of LCD - If that happens the price will increase by at least 40%. And unlikely even then because then ProMotion wouldn’t be possible. And if you have both ProMotion and OLED then 799 will become 1299 or more.

I'm right there with you. Out of curiosity I was pricing an 11" with a Smart Keyboard. It's a $1000 and there is nothing in it that warrants that kind of price to me. For that money I would seriously look at a new MacBook Air given the limitations of iOS12, mainly around photos. I hate that I can't do basic stuff like Smart Albums and edit Location information. So I end up using my iMac for that.

Plus my 10.5" is still blazing fast and smooth.

I have a 10.5 and I’ve looked at the iPad Pro 11 a few times and can’t bring myself to pull the trigger either.

I use the 10.5 as my primary computer too since I do a lot of traveling. The main reason I’m holding off is that it is just an expensive upgrade. I’d maybe clear $500 after unloading my current iPad on eBay, so I’d be looking at $800-$900 on top of that to get the newest model. I bought an iPhone X the day after the iPhone XS was announced and saved around $500 by doing that, so short of finding some sort of deal I’ll probably do something like that next year.
