I'm sure they could make a pretty penny porting over all the Mario games and stuff to the iPhone/iPod touch. But I highly doubt it will ever happen, since the iPhone/Ipod touch is kinda direct competition to the Gameboy and DS lines.

I truly wonder if I'm the only one who hates Nintendo, and is sick of Mario, Zelda and all the other crap they have. Why hasn't Nintendo thought of innovation? (Sorry but the Wii is far from innovative, but I'm not saying the other consoles are either...) Why do we have to have the same stupid Mario games, the same stupid Zelda games, the same stupid Metroid games??? Think of something new Nintendo. There's a reason why your console is considered kiddie...

Nintendo have precious little in their own "App Store" (e.g. DSi Store), so I do not think they will be infesting Apple's anytime soon.

You have people there crying out for Super Mario Brother 1,2 & 3, and all they put out is a half-assed mini-game-of-a-mini-game version of Wario-Ware and a version of Dr. Mario.

When they do start adding to the catalog, it will just be more whoring-out of Mario and their other tired-old IPs/franchises.

It is hard to believe, but there is not a straightforward, arcade-complete version of Donkey Kong on ANY Nintendo platform to date. The closest could not be played as the arcade game with repeating boards and instead added 96 levels of tedious puzzle crap instead.

On top of which, Nintendo's signature games tend to rely on decent controls, and the simulate D-Pad you find in iPhone games of this nature, no matter how well implemented, simply suck. No way I would try and play SMB 3 with a virtual D-Pad, it requires way too much precision.

The old games like Mario and Zelda are just classics. The games that some of us played when some of us were younger. That is why a lot of people like them so much.

Why hasn't Nintendo thought of innovation?

Oh dear! Donkey Kong, the NES controller, the Power Glove, the Gameboy, the Virtual Boy, shoulder buttons, the analogue controller, rumble, Super Mario 64, the DS, the Wii...

Nope, no innovation there.

Haha...

So true.

Probably the most innovative of all video game companies.

Their tactic of shoehorning well known IP to sell extra units (golf, tennis, football, baseball, etc.) could be a valid criticism of Nintendo, but talk of a lack of innovation is pure claptrap.

For starters Nintendo would have to sell it for <$10, no one is going to pay $40 like they do on the DS or PSP. Not only do they lose $30, they also lose however many hundreds a DS costs. Plus they increase marketshare for the competition.

Based on the above, kinda makes you wonder why Microsoft sell Office on the Mac.

Wow.

What rubbish.

You want to attack a console for not being innovative... and you choose the Wii?:rolleyes:

I agree with others the d-pad implementation on the iPhone sucks. I usually avoid games that use it.

Nintendo keeps making Mario and Zelda games because they are cash cows. People keep buying them. Nintendo doesn't have much of a strategy when it comes to downloadable content. They can't even patch games on the wii.

Erm, I find the one they've used in Sonic the Hedgehog really good.

-L
Really? I thought Sonic on iPhone was terrible. You can't see where you're tapping and some of the precision jumps are too hard because I sometimes miss the button I'm supposed to be tapping because my finger is covering it (i.e. I can't "feel" for the button).

Not to mention the slowdown at certain key points and occasional unresponsiveness that makes the difficulty level 10 times harder.

I think the control methods on the iPhone are the biggest problem with a lot of games that are generally lazy ports. Innovative games designed in mind work well such as those requiring the tilt functions and such like.

They keep making them because people buy them and they keep buying them because the games are so much better on the newer platforms! My kids loved MarioKart Double Dash on the GameCube. I couldn't imagine buying another version for the Wii, but the Wii remote adds so much to the game! My kids received it as a gift and playing the old one now on the GameCube feels so flat because you can't jump by shaking the remote, etc.

Given that the 3.0 OS supports third-party use of the dock connector there is nothing stopping Nintendo releasing a controller add-in that provides a D-Pad and a couple of buttons that is required for their games to work. Charge $20 for the hardware, $10 for each game...

I was actually talking about innovating now, with games, and not rehashing the same old IP. And I'm sorry, but the Wii is far from innovative. If you call waggling a stick in the air, with 480p graphics innovative, that's just sad. And you call the PowerGlove innovative? Really? Check out the AVGN video on the PowerGlove and tell me if you still think it's innovative. And again, the Virtual Boy? Are you just grasping at straws here? Nintendo now, is not the Nintendo of the 80's...they've slipped dramatically. Why do you think there's only a handful of games that get over 80% rated? The rest are pure crap. Because the Wii is a gimmick and nothing more. The Wii is kiddie, Mario and Zelda suck, and Nintendo are money whores. That's all it comes down to.

Read above.

A quick consult with my dictionary tell me that to innovate means: "make changes in something already existing, as by introducing new methods, ideas or products." So that would make the Virtual Boy and the Power Glove, although both highly flawed concepts, innovative.

Before Nintendo announced the Wii and its Wiimote, I don't recall "waggling a stick in the air" to control my videogames, so yes, that is also innovative.

The Wii is kiddie...

It's anything but "kiddie"; its - and the DS's - success is down to it appealing to a wide demographic.

...and Nintendo are money whores.

Heaven forbid that a company should aim to make money!

But they also have some new blockbuster titles such as .... ..... Disaster: Day of Crises

The problem with Nintendo is that they haven't made (or been able to make) new franchises since the 90's. Zelda, Mario and friends have all been around since then.

Exactly how YOUNG are you? Mario and Donkey Kong's first appearance was in 1981's Donkey Kong, Link and Zelda first appeared in 1986's the Legend of Zelda. The only notable new franchises out of Nintendo in the 1990's I can think of were F-Zero and Starfox.
