Can anyone recommend a controller (like an xbox controller or similar) that I could use to play games on my mac.

I will be running Windows technically and playing a game called Team Fortress 2 running Steam.

Thanks,

I don't have a recommendation for you, but why do you want a controller to play Team Fortress? A mouse and keyboard is much better for that game.

I'm not really used to playing games with a mouse and keyboard and always have played using a controller.

The characters in the game that I generally play with won't be limited by the "inaccuracy" of using a controller.

I got a Microsoft XBOX 360 Wireless controller with the Windows adaptor add those together with a handy little Mac OSX plug-in and you have a great controller for your Mac!

So you have that setup up and running?

Could you point me in a good direction to look for those 2 items. The adapter and the plug-in.

I already have the xbox controller.

I would be so happy if this all actually works.

So just medic then? (Maybe pyro in a limited capacity?)

I'm curious.

I play with the demolition guy, pyro, medic, and soldier.

The soldier I use to shoot rockets at peoples feet so i don't need to be as accurate, and I suck with the mouse anyway.

Every game I usually play I use a controller

I have one of these and I love it.

I would get that one, but i want wireless :(
i want to be able to sit in my couch, while my MBP is hooked up to the TV.
I have a bluetooth m&k, but the range sucks.

I have the same setup as R.Youden and it works perfect. I'm not sure if you need drivers for it to work in Windows.

Did this work out with the wired controller, or did you have to buy the wireless adapter?

Logitech is the best brand out there for good controllers that work on the Mac.

Get used to using a mouse and keyboard.

Playing TF-2 online with a controller will result in you having your backside handed to you with a nice side salad. It will be painful in the extreme and you will get pretty hacked off.

Playing it with a controller is a non option - forget about it. Seriously, abandon this foolish path now.

I hope I have been clear - I was really hoping to remove all ambiguity. I have been playing TF-2 since launch. There is not a single class that will play well with a controller.

It is a great game which you really will enjoy all the more if you use a mouse and keyboard.

:)

I'm using an older Logitech controller that's nearly identical to the DualShock. No drivers needed, most games see it through the MacOS X HID system. Great for old emulation games.

There is theoretically a way to get the PS3 DualShock to pair with the Mac via Bluetooth, but I haven't bothered to try. I had this controller for cheap long before I got my PS3.

Exactly. Some games will work with a controller, but FPS on a computer are not designed for a controller.

But at least these noobs can increase my ratio.

The ones on their site right now only list Windows under Specifications. Will OS X take care of all that and make it work?

Yes they will work on OSX with no issues. In fact pretty much any controller will work as most controllers just use standard HID commands. Ive also used various PS2 controller to USB adaptors as well. Just remember that a lot of games do not natively support a controller and you need a third party program like gamepad companion to emulate a mouse and keyboard.
