The mid and high option 2014 minis have the cpu chips (mid) i5-4278U and (high) i5-4308U or i7-4578U.

What is the difference? Googling the last five digits and choosing the first link (ARK) brings up the intel spec sheet for dummies about each chip.

All the specs are identical, except

1) Cache: 3MB, 3MB, 4MB.
2) Recommended Price: $315, $315, $426
3) Base Frequency: 2.6GHz, 2.8GHz, 3.0GHz
4) Max Turbo Frequency: 3.1GHz, 3.3GHz, 3.5GHz
5) Graphics Max Dynamic Frequency: 1.1GHz, 1.2GHz, 1.2GHz
6) Flexible Display Interface: No, No, Yes
7) Clear Video HD Technology: No, No, Yes

These 3 chips in the mini have identical base configurations, except

8) Storage: 1TB HDD, 1TB Fusion, 1TB Fusion
9) Apple Price: $699, $999, $1199

Given that the chassis is the same for all three minis, if we take $699 as the base price and $74 as the retail for a 0.125TB SSD needed to make the 1TB HDD into a 1TB fusion drive, the fair price Apple should charge is

10) Fair Price: $699, $773, $884

Bear in mind I am quoting the retail prices for the SSD and the cpu chips. Apple would get them wholesale and make money selling them at the retail price. Consequently, we have

11) Apple Overcharge: $0, $226, $315

This overcharge really seems to be outrageous.
