iPhone I6s+ Updating from 9.3.3 JB to 10.2.1 nonJB

For some it might be blasphemy, for me it's a direction to better security. Could be my age talking, but I'm received sensitive information on my phone (emails, app data, etc) and have to give up my JB.

The recommended route is to always restore and start a fresh phone. Unfortunately, I have a big problem with losing data. Especially, my texts, that go way back when! I wish to keep them and app data. Can I just upgrade directly to 10.2.1 or will I face problems?

You will have to restore. Updating will leave you with issues. Your best option is to make sure you have a full (un-encrypted) iTunes backup, and an iCloud backup, and then restore with iTunes. Then, you can restore from your backup (both iTunes and iCloud should be fine). If you get problems with one, use the other.

I'm pretty sure that restoring from a backup made while jailbroken will include application "support" files from at least some jailbreak apps/tweaks. From a security standpoint, I don't believe this is an issue as those files will just be dead weight but they will show that the device has been jailbroken in the past.

This is a good point. The original NvwaStone app or PP's app should be removed. Though if OP is using jbme.qwertyoruiop.com, there isn't an "app" to remove. Just delete the shortcut from the home screen.

A DFU restore is not strictly necessary but it's an extra step I have adopted. The current profile on my iPhone 6s+ is the same one I created in late 2011 under iOS 5 on a 3GS. I've never had any issues with this process.

Let's just say I was looking for something the other day in iCleaner and ran across my preferences file for the tweak called Luna.

I last used Luna on iOS 6 to enable DND to function when the phone was locked. iOS 7 made Luna irrelevant. But…yeah my prefs file for it is still there.

I also have the same backup file since 2011 with my iPhone 3GS with iOS 5. Never had a problem with it.

What an irony. I sold my updated 6s plus with ios 10.1.1 and repurchased a 6s with ios 9.3.2
I had to have pptp and the phone works perfectly well. I see no reason for the update.

If not for circumstance I would still be using my old iPhone 5 jailbroken on iOS 6.1. I had it exactly as I wanted it. How I use my phone has not changed one bit since 2006 or so and there is nothing I use now that I couldn't use in some form or another back then.

That and my jailbreak has NEVER been worth ANYTHING Apple has chosen to ripoff add as a 'feature' to iOS.

Absolutely can't agree more. The main programs I use are Whatsapp calling and the pptp vpn. Once whatsapp stops working on ios 9.3, I may then have to look at alternatives but so far in the near future I believe I should be good.

My wife has the same setup. To top it off I have an extra brand new 6s plus 64 gb with ios 9.3.2 just as a backup. Because once Apple replaces the device, it most surely comes with ios 10 which does not have pptp.
