Ok, I bought the mini-display port to dual link dvi adaptor for $99. However, it doesn't work from going from my pc to the imac or from my macbook pro to the imac.

I find it retarded that they wouldn't even sell a working adapter.

Has anyone gotten this to work or does anyone know which adapter I can buy to get this going?
Again.

-PC to iMac
-2009 (pre-minidisplay port) dvi to imac.

I need it to be dual link dvi because I want to use it at max resolution.

Thanks in advance.

You bought the wrong adapter. These adapters go only one-way.
What you bought goes from mini-DisplayPort to dual-link DVI.

Confusion can be prevented by reading about what it is you're buying before you buy it. Retartedness has nothing to do with it.

You need DVI to DisplayPort (or mini-DisplayPort). Unless your PC has a display port output on it, be prepared to spend some money. Display Port is not electrically compatible with DVI (completely different protocols), so active circuitry is needed to do the conversion.

Here is one such adapter.

Thanks for your reply. I knew buying it that there was not much chance it would work (which was helped by the people at the Apple store having no idea if it was one way or not).

I didn't mean it was retarded that the adapter worked or not for what I was doing. I find it retarded that Apple has switched from DVI to Displayport and made functionality for their iMacs to be used as an external monitor for laptops, etc.

They don't sell an adapter for dual link dvi to mini displayport. I can't be the only person that needs it.

I wrote the original message poorly because I was late for work.

To summarize, does anyone know of an adapter? Dual link DVI --> Mini displayport

Thanks

Easiest and cheapest way may simply be to replace the video card in your PC if you can. Pop something in with a display port on it and get yourself a display port to mini-display port cable like this one: http://estore.circuitassembly.com/p...isplayport-Adapter-Cable.html?setCurrencyId=2

Wouldn't be cheap. It's a gaming rig and has Nvidai GTX 480x2 in SLI.

That's why i need to continue to use the PC. If I wanted to throw some cheap graphics card with mini-display port, then I'd just use the imac exclusively.

Im not sure if you are going to be able to get DVI from your PC to display at the native resolution on your iMac.... No matter what adapter you buy!
