i7 iMac: Mouse Woes (but a GREAT screen)

My i7 iMac arrived today with no screen issues and no major problems at all (after scouring the forums the past few weeks, I was a nervous wreck waiting for it).

I ordered on Black Friday and believe I have one of the most recent batches with, I cross-my-fingers hope, none of the screen problems that have been reported.

However, I am about to gouge my eyes out because of a blasted erratic mouse issue in OSX. I am using a Razer Naga (though it is still a problem with every other mouse I hook up) and regardless of the settings, the cursor is jumpy and impossible to control at times.

I am Bootcamp running Win7 64 and have zero mouse issues on that side of the computer. Its only when I boot into OSX that I have the mouse problems. I have tried the Naga drivers and two USB/Mouse shareware apps, all to no avail.

Otherwise, the iMac runs like a dream. In WoW with Ultimate Settings I get 50 fps in Dalaran and 120+ out flying in the world. LotRO runs great as well -- with the recommended settings I am at around 60 fps at all times, even standing at the Prancing Pony in Bree.

At any rate, this long winded post is really just to vent and see if anybody else runs into the same mousey issues I have.

I am glad I traded in my gaming rig -- I just wish I could play on the mac side of my machine.

id try maybe running a new install of OSX see if that clears anything up.

if its working fine under windows, i dont suspect a buggy USB port or bluetooth drivers/module (if they are wireless)

i take it the magic mouse does the same thing or no?

Yep, Magic Mouse does the same. I will try and clean install tonight and see if that fixes the issue.

I got mine yesterday too. Good for us. I am with you on the hopes that we waited past the screen issues. My screen looked great last night. It did crash right after restarting from software updates.

No mouse problems to speak of.

Clean install of my OS X partition worked like a champ. Smooth mouse.

Still a great screen.

Wellp, installed my Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard drivers and the mouse problem returned. Even when I uninstall the G15 works through the provided uninstall utility, crazy mouse.

I type this on my MacBook whilst the second reinstall works behind me.

Oh well, no gaming keyboard for me I guess. At least my Naga still seems to be working.

seems strange. Maybe make a phone call to apple? That can get annoying quickly.

I recently solved this issue on a friend of mine's new i7 27" iMac. It turned out to be an issue with extended desktop and second monitor plugged in the display port. As soon as I disconnected it, the issue was gone. Hope that helps some.

Check your monitor and display settings to see if you have any of those features enabled if you're not using the mini-displayport adapter.

sounds like your computer doesn't like when you use those drives. since it is a gaming keyboard I am sure there are features that need the drivers. Maybe using USB Over drive to control mouse and keyboard issues.

It maybe something you need to take into Apple.

I should also point something out. This issue was caused (and I tested it again not long ago) by using an extended desktop (through display port to DVI) and having the other monitor turned off. As soon as we turned the secondary monitor on it was fine, even when it went to sleep. So the power needed to be on. We just disconnected the display port adapter for now as it wasn't needed until he wants to run Windows 7 in Parallels.

Just check to see if there's something amiss in your display settings. Also, he uses a Logitech MX-518 mouse which has acceleration features.
